Iceland only accepting Passports as ID now...

Options
Went across to Iceland in my lunch break yesterday to get a couple of bottles of wine for tonight. The woman behind the counter just looked at me and held her hand out (felt like saying "Yes? Do you want something?"), and I handed over my drivers' licence. Rude cashier didn't even look at it, just said in a loud voice that they only accepted passports now and I couldn't have any wine, making me feel about two inches tall.

I know it's probably company policy, but who carries their passport around with them just in case? I know I don't, as it'd be too expensive to replace, and I don't know anyone else that does. Eventually went to Spar who do accept other forms of ID.

I would NEVER carry my passport with me unless I had to (opening bank account etc). I always have my photocard driving license with me for ID as Im only 21.

I know its not much good now but I would have asked to speak to a manager and check this is company policy as Ive never had problems with my driving license at iceland before.

I refuse to carry my passport on me as well apart for really needed things. Unfortunatly it is my only form of ID :o . This means I usually have to get my fiancé to buy vodka or southern comfort for me. I'm 19 as well and do not usually get asked for ID but when I do get ID'd I feel like saying to them 'you are a 2 mile walk from my house and I am not risking my parsport on that for a bottle. I have no other form of ID and it is not my fault  !' It does make me angy that people think you should have another form of ID other than your passport!
It would be even worse if that was the only form of ID that they would take  .

I would have, but as I was on my lunch break and didn't have much time, I decided to leave it.

omg thats terrible, driving cards have our photos on! i wouldnt carry my passport round either, but if thats their policy, then it looks like they can do without the customers lol
  • They won't be getting my custom anymore, that's for sure. Stupid policy and miserable staff. My fiancé didn't even HAVE a passport til last month, and not everyone has one.

I was just about to say the same! DD has to carry her passport around as she was robbed recently and now has no other id. Lucky for her she has one:rolleyes:
