perhaps OP should ask iceland (or other overly officious stores )for their staff records, to prove all paid minimum wage or above, and that they even have right to work/live in UK..

watching the Primark scandal show last week make you wonder how they get prives so low..

Why exactly would a private company disclose private personnal details of its employees (data that is covered under the date protection act) to someone that has no legal entitlement to it?
  • I've eventually received a reply, which does say that all stores in my area are now only accepting passports due to fraudulent drivers' licences (I thought they were virtually impossible to replicate with all the holograms on them now, but nvm).

I went yesterday into our local iceland with 2 of my friends to get food and booze for a party they are having and the lad on the till (who was showing off in front of us anyway) asked us all for id, i was not purchasing any alcohol only they where, all i had was a bag of steam veg yet he refused to serve the other 2 unless they had id because they might give it to me. me and one of the other girls didnt have any on us so we had to go through the whole palaver of waiting for the manager, who barely looked at us and said ok!!!! Grrr

Outragious, Passports are far easier to forge than driving licenses, and I cant imagine anyone going to so much trouble, just to get a beer.

my questions were not answered completely

    I got this reply

"I can confirm that our stores accept the following as proof of identification -

    Valid Passport
    Full UK Driving Licence
    ID card

Thank you once again for contacting us."

  • then print that off and take it with you if you go in there again, then if the manager refuses to serve you with only a drivers license you can show them their own company policy.

They seem to be clamping down everywhere. My local One Stop Shop asked me for ID when buying fags the other day, even though I've been buying fags there for 2 and half years! Unfortunately I didn't have any ID because I'd just passed my driving test and hadn't got my license back yet and like many others, don't tend to carry my passport around. What's even more annoying is that I'm 30 next year and am not having it that I look under 21!!!
  • Colliefrog wouldn't worry about it, I remember getting asked for ID last year at a Tesco Extra for the first time in years (I'm in my early 30's) I was totally gobsmacked. Too surprised to get annoyed and with hindsight there were two reasons why I think I was asked 1) it was the day that GSCE results came out and there's a chavy estate nearby so they were being extra careful 2) the age of the woman at the till, as the older you get the harder it is to tell if someone is 18 or 21 (back when I was uni student other students looked 18-21, nowadays some of em look about 12 ;) ).
