Should I wait to increase pension contributions?
I’m in a lucky position to be able to increase my contributions and also pay in a lump sum towards my company pension, but I have noticed in the last month that the pot has taken a dramatic fall. Should I hang fire? I am about 6 years away from retirement age, if that affects anything. Thank you.

Small inherited pension
Could really do with some advice as I have inherited a small pension. This pension. Am I best to cash this in and pay tax or could it be transferred into a separate pension and draw half out this year and half out the following year which would bring it under the tax threshold? I am 56 y/o and any advice would be…

Pension Forcast
My wife is 64 and has not worked or received benefits since October 2020. Shas obtained a State Pension forecast (dated 16/9/2024). It says: Your forecast is £221.20 a week. This is the most you can get. You will reach State pension age on 6/7/2027. My question is, does the forecast assume that she will pay NI from now…

"Copy" Birth and Marriage Certiifcates
Forms such as the NHS Pensions AW8P ask for original birth and marriage certificates. However, the original issued at birth are not always available. So does this mean original or does it mean government issued as opposed to a photocopy? This is frustrating when the missing certificate is the result of a failure to return…

Taking pension pot at 55
Hi all - I feel I have seen numerous messages on the forum asking the same question but I still don't quite understand the implications. In a nutshell - I turn 55 next month and have been in a company pension since 1993. Before that I had a private pension for around 3 or 4 years. I have been ignoring the letters from this…

Avoiding HRT by pension contribution - & for last year?
I paid 40% tax for the first time last tax year. HRT of £1079 mainly due to higher interest rates on savings and an unexpected bonus which pushed total income over £50k including salary (less pension sacrifice) and DB pension income. I expect a similar scenario this year. So I’m thinking of making an additional payment of…

Can live without my DC pension pot but should I take the 25% tax free at the moment
We're fortunate that my missus and I both get a full state pension and I also have a modest DB pension which pays me enough each month to top up the state pensions so that we can live to our usual quiet standard pretty much unaffected by retirement. We have a nest egg in ISAs, no mortgage outstanding and no debt at all. At…

Aptia misapplying GMP equalisation process for deferred pension
My Deferred DB Pension recently transferred from Mercer to Aptia and I asked them for a valuation. The previous valuation (from Mercer) was £3023.26 p.a., in 2017. The valuation now (in 2025) from Aptia is £3292.80. I expected it to have gone up with inflation (Capped at 5%) which would make it about £4000. I still have…

The iniquity of Salsac on lower paid workers
First, big disclaimer. I have been a big, huge, gigantic beneficiary of salsac in the past. So yes, I like it. A lot. But something that just hit home was when my oldest asked me to take a look at the pension arrangements for her nice shiny new graduate job. It's a net pay arrangement, so I was about to say to her that she…

Amount paid into pension
Hi, hoping you can advise whether what I am doing is allowable for tax: I have taxable income of £70,400 for 2024/25 and have made personal contributions of £20,967 to my SIPP, which have been grossed up to £26,209 by my provider reclaiming the tax. My employer has made contributions of £51,923 to the same SIPP. I have…
