Hi I’m new on here so bear with me, I will be 70 next week and took early retirement in 2013 to care for my wife who has brain tumor we both now have state pension and my carers allowance stopped when pension started, I noticed that my wife who was retired through ill health and is on pip is getting £20 more a week than I am in state pension when I called to query it they mentioned that because I paid into a superannuation scheme at work that I didn’t pay enough into NI, I had worked for 36 years for them is there anything I can do to get the full state pension.
thanx in advance.

The simple answer is yes, top up some post 2016 years. But you need to act swiftly as all of those available years cease to be available from April.Post up some anonymous details and someone will give you some pointersCurrent weekly £££.pp amount.
Number of full NI years 15-16 and earlier
Number of full NI years 16-17 and later
Tax year you reached state retirement
Were you in a contracted-out pension scheme, NHS, local government, civil service etc
Years which show not full and prices

It sounds as if your wife may be entitled to Attendance Allowance, from the brief details you give here. Has she (or you on her behalf) claimed it?I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Competition Time, Site Feedback and Marriage, Relationships and Families boards. The employer pension got those NI contributions so they will cover it.
The contracted out element gave more to the employer pension scheme but less state pension1 -
I suspect it was the old SERPS part of the state pension that you contracted out of. This provided an earning-related boost to the state pension in exchange for a higher NI contribution. If you contracted out then the money went instead into a form of private pension - and you should be benefiting from a pension paid from this private scheme.loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0
