Hot air via open fire pipe mystery.
I was recently in a pub which had a large open fire, going around the fire was a set of pipes connected to a tiny fan, the fan forced air from the room though and out the other end where it was coming out hot. I've googled all sorts of phrases but can't find one of these 'kits' for sale, does anyone know what they are…

Its the local fuse (fuse on the on/off socket on the wall next to heater) that keeps blowing at night when the cheap rate supply switches on supplying the heater. Leave it Running or on Timer

I have a Oil heated central heating system which, because of the lack of insulation in certian parts of the building, takes a long time to heat the building! The question is... Should I continue to have the system on a timer switch and have the oil heated on full…

Calor Gas refusing to deliver gas
I posted this already on the Gas forum not realising there was a dedicated LPG one too. I hope reposting doesn't contravene any forum rules.... I wonder if anyone can offer some advice on what my rights are regarding being refused gas. I live in a semi-rural location without a mainline gas supply so we have our gas…

During the day, one radiator on or an electric heater?
My husband is now a masters student and is home a lot during the day. Is it more expensive to turn all the radiators off except the one in his office room (and the bathroom as it has not got a temp valve on it) or run an electric heater like an oil filled radiator? Thank you in advance for any advice

Is underfloor heating cost effective
I have just moved into a new house that has electric underfloor heating installed under the slate tiles in the kitchen and hallway. I have had it on and it is very comfortable to walk on a warm floor with just socks on. My concern is how much it is costing. I have an existing central heating radiator which is not enough to…

Recommendations for new combi/combi swap
Any recommendations for a replacement combi of 35 to 40 kw to replace an Alpha 280e? The property has been extended, the heating seems to cope at present, don't think it would during a prolonged cold spell. The HW output is poor tho' . I am used to combis but this is the slowest I've come accross. Any installers about or…

New GCH System, but will exposed copper pipes freeze?
I have just had a new Gas Central Heating system put in, but I am worried that the plumber has not lagged the copper pipes that are running outside on an external wall. Bearing in mind UK winters, will these copper pipes freeze/get damaged by being exposed? Was it his responsibility to lag the pipes if it is needed? Should…

Hi there all. I'm after some kind of bolier/Central heating maintenance plan and have contaced British Gas. Scottish Hydro THTC Heating Query
I think this tarriff is only available in Scotland so it may be that not many people here are able to answer. Basically there are 2 meters one for Standard Energy and one for Heating control energy. I assumed that the latter was a cheaper rate for the storage heaters that are installed but the bill has just arrived…

Lots of questions about electric heating.
My son has just bought a 2 bed flat, that is heated by 4 night storage heaters that were installed 8/9 years ago when the block was built. There is no gas in the block. The EPC he was given states that the Energy Efficiency Rating could be improved from 57 to 76 by replacing the night storage heaters with new ones. The…

Cheaper source for small quantites of kerosene (paraffin)?
I use a kerosene (paraffin) heater. I don't have much choice -- it's that or electric heat at 14.5 pence/kw.hour, and anyway I prefer to pay up front rather than later when the bill comes. For paraffin, the cheapest place I have been able to find charges £1.10 per litre if you bring your own container. I have a 25 litre…
