Splitting Parent's Estate between Husband and Wife?
I'm an only child, and my father passed away several years ago. My mother, who is about to enter into early 80's has some savings and a property overseas. Whilst I don't want to appear morbid of mercenary, I was wondering if my mother had the option of leaving 50% of her estate to myself and the other 50% to my wife so…

Money owed to an estate informally?
I'm working through the estate valuation for my late father and can't find a clear answer on how I should treat money owed back to his estate, that wasn't actual loans etc. The IHT416 form seems a bit long winded and some of these are sums that wouldn't have been owed to Dad if he was still alive, so don't seem to fit what…

Wife dies, House in husband's name
My mother has died intestate. The house my mother and father lived in was owned solely by my father. Does the matrimonial home automatically go to my father because he owned it or does half the house go in to the intestacy pot (up to £322,000 rule) and then go to him and the amount over £322K go to the children?

Advice in Will about "proof of funds"
What advice are folks including in their wills or accompanying documentation about the "proof of funds" now being requested by conveyancers during the house-buying process? There's a note in another thread that says "Anyone can claim they had an inheritance", or words to that effect. Is this a new requirement?

Is the 3rd year anniversary significant?
Hi, As stated in my last thread over a couple of months ago, I've been in dispute with the other inheritor of a will for long while, now, and this ended up in court. The court ruled both of us should be removed as executors, and they'd assign another, independent solicitor to be the executor. I started the previous thread,…

UPDATING WILLS WITH A NEW SOLICITOR
In 2014 my late wife and I made Wills as tenants in common. She passed away in 2022 with Alzheimer's. Much of my Will, similar to but not a mirror one, is based on what she wanted and/or as suggested by the original solicitor. I have just made a new one on the "Free Wills" scheme with a new solicitor, donating £150 to the…

Worth getting financial advice?
Hi, to cut a long story short, my mother (the previous owner of this account) recently passed on. I am…
