Company shares scheme, have I stitched myself up
I originally enrolled in our company share scheme when I was a basic rate tax payer and I’ve recently become a higher rate tax payer. I’ve just sold all my shares as I needed the money for buying a property and I lost a huge amount of that money to tax. Obviously a lot of these shares weren’t past the 3 year mark where you…

Got a free bitcoin about ten years ago but where is it?
Hello, did anyone here sign up for a bitcoin website about ten years ago which had a free offer of a free bitcoin just for joining? I did but only just remembered, but I don't remember where it was! If anyone could jog my memory of where this money saving offer was, I'd appreciate a tip.

ISA Mature Date - transfer query
Sorry but I am having a total memory blank and just want to make sure I get this right. I have a cash isa that is maturing on 4th May. I want to transfer this cash isa to another provider, so in the transfer request form do I request that the isa amount is transferred on 4th May or the day after?

Blackrock Consensus
As some of you know, I've recently started investing. My first foray is £20k in a S&S ISA with Vanguard, all of it invested in their VS100 product. I have another £20k to invest this year and intend to put it all into a S&S ISA. I know my investment sums aren't significant, I also know the chances of anything untoward…

True cost of investment funds
Hi All, I've been switching funds recently within pensions. I'd been comparing them by looking at the funds performance against the benchmark i was interested in, then comparing the AMC and management/platform charges. In most cases i called the pension provider and confirmed the charges. All good. Then i read a thing…

What constitutes mis-selling of stock market investments to someone old and naive?
Hi all, apologies for the long post - a troubling topic I'm seeking advice on how to claim investment mis-selling on behalf of a relative, now deceased aged 90. I'm her executor. Can anyone advise the key points that constitute mis-selling? I believe she was mis-sold investments by her IFA when she was 78, twelve years…

Weighing up different Vanguard options - % equity and risk in medium term
I've got about £50k invested through ISAs in three different Vanguard funds: 25% in LifeStrategy 40 70% in Target retirement age 2030 5% in ESG developed world all cap. I am thinking through how best to use my partner's ISA allowance, and also want to invest up to £50k in my name through a GIA (I have used up my ISA…

BACS transfer problems
Recently I have had problems (with different banks, same problem) with funding a savings/isa account by BACS transfer. When attempting to do this I get the messsage "This payee account is not recognised, proceed at your own risk. On contacting the savings account they say their account is recognised. To summarise, this…

What to do with equity from house sale?
Hi all. Hoping for some advice or signposting of where to look. Basically we have sold our house and will be going into rented for 6-12 months whilst we find our next home (nothing on market locally that fits our needs and prepared to wait). Upon completing we will have around 145k to come back to us after our mortgage is…

Self Assessments for mortgage - cannot access
Hello, Sorry if this is in the wrong place I couldn't find an area for Tax issues. Wondering if anyone has experienced something similar. I need to download previous self assessments from HMRC for my mortgage application and on one from 2 years ago it says 'received' but no date under 'submitted'. They've said that this is…

S&S ISAs - paying fees
Hi, I am just wondering how people manage their fees in their S&S ISAs. To date, I have kept a bit in cash, and topped this up when necessary. But doing this across ISAs on multiple platforms seems a real pain. Is there any downside to holding the full ISA in funds and letting the platform sell as necessary each month to…

What to do with my 75k savings?
I am living and working in London and renting. I have been keeping my savings in cash as I thought I might want to buy my first house but the commitment of a mortgage/size of debt worries me. I have been thinking about stocks and shares ISAs and index funds until I have saved more and figured out whether to get a mortgage…

Interest Rates and Inflation
As I project forward into my retirement, I construct disaster scenarios in my head such as "What if inflation went to 10%"? I remember mortgage interest rates being 14% at one point in the Nineties. I'd no savings or investments then but, I assume if I had, I'd have been earning 14% on those if I did have money in the…

First Timer - buying shares
Hello. I have absolutely no experience of buying shares. I was issued some from my employment in a nationalised industry which was privatised back in the 1990s. Have kept them and enjoy the dividends. With a bit of spare cash from not-spending, I thought I'd like to buy some in one of my favourite places (Wetherspoons!!) -…

Best low cost share dealing service (not ISA or CFD trading)
Have a few shares in different AIM + FTSE companies which are held currently with IG.com. However i don't trade very often so seem to be spending more on inactivity / management fees at around £100 / year. Therefore i'm looking for something cheaper with no ongoing costs and low trading charges It just needs to be a…

Overpay mortgage or pension?
Hi I’m able to overpay my 2.35 percent mortgage or pay more into my pension. My pension is lower than I’d like but then the sooner my house is paid off the better. Any thoughts?

Should i rebalance?
I rebalanced at the start of the year and picked two uncorrelated vanguard bond ETFs, including VETY, but I failed to check the current price and bought VETY at a record high. I have invested more and more, hoping to buy low, but it keeps going down (or stagnates). After 6 months, I'm tempted to sell low, as it's now 50%…

1995/6 trust fund??
Hi, in 1995/96 my in-laws won a fair bit on the lottery and said they had put some money in a trust fund for our son. I'll keep it brief, but there have been major issues in the family and we now have no contact and they are very un-aproachable. Anyway our son is now 26 and he has heard nothing about this trust fund and he…

Cold Calling Scam
Beware of calls from people purporting to be from Thomas McCain Group Inc. They are somehow aware of your past investments and claim to be working for some one on a buy out mission of that company. They are offering between 4 and 8 times the current stock market price of the share as they have to get a holding of 21%. When…
