1995/6 trust fund??

Hi, in 1995/96 my in-laws won a fair bit on the lottery and said they had put some money in a trust fund for our son. I'll keep it brief, but there have been major issues in the family and we now have no contact and they are very un-aproachable. Anyway our son is now 26 and he has heard nothing about this trust fund and he is not sure if it even exists. Our son did a general search which showed nothing (find my lost account) So does anyone have any idea how he can go about finding out if there is anything out there. Many thanks x

The "my lost account" search wouldn't necessarily bring up a trust fund account if, for example, it was in the names of the in-laws with only an abstract designation (like his initials) to indicate that it was a trust fund.
Does he have any evidence that a trust fund exists in his name? Such as something in writing from the in-laws? If not his best bet is probably to forget about it.
In the absence of any evidence, it is perfectly possible that they never followed through and put any money into a trust fund for him. Or did no more than mentally "earmark" some of their own money for him, which amounts to the same thing.
  • Hi, thanks for replying. He has no evidence that's why we doubt it actually exists. He is happy enough to forget about it but we were just curious,
  • There's nothing to lose by asking them?

I know you say they're "unapproachable" but a simple enquiry from your son,  without emotion or expectation, might help?

A simple text/email simply enquiring whether any provisions were indeed made would probably help - even if the answer is simply confirming its all going to charity.
