Self Assessments for mortgage - cannot access

Hello,

Sorry if this is in the wrong place I couldn't find an area for Tax issues.

Wondering if anyone has experienced something similar. I need to download previous self assessments from HMRC for my mortgage application and on one from 2 years ago it says 'received' but no date under 'submitted'. They've said that this is due to it being submitted by third party software and they cannot access it me to give me a copy.

I have never used any kind of third part software like quickbooks or anything like that, i fill it out myself through the gateway.

The only thing i can think of is that I used a company called Tax Returned to recover some overpaid tax that year and granted them access to do so, however shortly after i decided not to used them and backed out. Then removed them from the system a month or so later when I noticed they were still listed as a agent.

I am going to contact that company monday but wondered if anyone else had had similiar issues. Theyre a big company and well known, not sure why they would submit a tax return? Im not getting anywhere with HMRC and their helpline just leads me round in circles.

Thank you.

What do you actually want from HMRC?

If it is just copies of your Self Assessment returns then there is no reason they could not supply them if they wanted to.  I suspect you are (inadvertently) confusing matters somewhere along the line.

Or is something more specific, mortgage related.

I would contact the hmrc, as the company you used you didn't in the end.

I get the message usually as my accountant handles my returns and they don't appear on the hmrc portal. They usually send me the sa302 via email  which was accepted by the underwriters, as it also matches the tax overview  figures which should be there regardless.

I just want a copy of the return yes, but when you submit 'through a third party' (which i havent) they say you cannot obtain copies unless you use the software you use when submitting. But in my case ive never used software so i keep going round in circles with them.

Im going to try and ring again tomorrow and hope someone different will help me.
  • If HMRC don't have it then how could they know how much tax you had to pay that year and send you a bill/refund?

I could understand you maybe not having certain access but find it hard to believe HMRC cannot supply a "copy", even if it just on whatever format they hold at their end.

I had an issue with a previous accountant, the HMRC posted me a copy FOC. but took a while though
