United Trust Bank concerns
I am posting this on behalf of a client who runs a charity. They recently set up a savings account with this bank and transferred a large amount of money to them. It was quite a lengthy procedure to set up this account. Apparently you can only transfer once into it. They were given an account number and sort code and made…

Holding cash in Stocks and Shares Isa
With the end of the tax year looming I'm looking to move some cash into my S&S Isa. By doing so am I correct in thinking it will be protected as in a cash ISA while I decide how best to invest it? I realise interest rates will be very low but its only a short term measure. Thanks.

Hi all I think there are some real bargains to be had at the moment. But the question is, which companies!? Im curious to hear what other more knowledgeable folk on these forums have to say. For example, IAG arent likely to go bust are they? Or perhaps theyll get bailed-out if there was a chance theyd go bust? Admittedly,…

I liquidated my entire portfolio. When will this be over (and what shall I do then)?
Not a strictly accurate title, but I couldn't resist. In February I sold the entire portfolio I inherited, which represents about half our retirement provision. I now have £300k sitting in savings accounts, waiting. Retirement starts this year, so it was amazing luck that things panned out that way. My only input was to…

Put money in ISA before EOFY, hold onto cash or make the most of exchange rates?
I had been saving up to make my first contribution to my Lifetime ISA by the end of this financial year to make the most of the 25% government contribution, but given the current situation, I'm wondering if that's a good idea and whether I should perhaps hold onto cash instead. Should I: 1. Deposit the full amount as…

Calculating investments loss/gain
I recently started investing only in February and I’m confused how to the Hargreaves Lansdown app calculates %gain/loss. I know they try to explain it in the app but it doesn’t seem to have any bearing on the amount I invested and what’s currently left in the “pot”. Do people calculate this manually themselves usually as…

ETF fluctuating spread
I bought a rather niche small ETF last week (SPOG) which is S&P Oil and Gas Commodity Producers and have been keeping a casual eye on the price since.
