There's something somewhere on one of the files at least. Have you checked them as suggested?

As I read that letter, they are automatically declining all applications from existing customers due to operational difficulties caused by the virus situation.  So nothing to do with your credit rating, if you are indeed an existing customer.

Banks ignore credit ratings, which are all different, anyway, across the CRAs. Plus, for savings, no bank is interested in your credit worthiness as you are not taking out any credit.

Savings account will not look at your credit rating but will look at any fraudulent activity or use these checks to confirm your identity. If not a current customer you will probably find they can't verify who you are or potential fraudulent activity been flagged up, if current customer as said previously and in letter these applications are automatically being refused.

But taking applications from new customers?

Yes because don't have staff to link accounts to existing applicants but set up process for new applicants straightforward.
