Interest Calculation
If I have £1000 in a fixed rate bond with AER 3% net paid quarterly over 2 years, what will my balance be at the end of the 2 years? Is the calcuation simply (£1000 x 1.03) x 1.03 = £1060.90 or does the paid quartley alter the calculation?

Cumulative v discrete performance
Apologies for this very "beginner" question but I've not been able to find an answer elsewhere online. When reviewing funds etc, I find that research websites often show a line graph showing cumulative performance and a bar chart showing discrete performance. Could you please explain the difference between discrete and…

Tesco Savings reducing rate
Had a letter from them recently saying they are reducing their rate from 0.75% to 0.60% effective from some date in January as they are not able to sustain the high rate due to the current market. Obviously trying to claw back as much money as possible after their recent profit forecasting troubles. I do wonder however how…

Santander Cash ISA 0.5%

US or European equities - a good time to buy?
I'm semi-retired at 61. I have a core of occupational pensions that will be enough for the bread and butter, mostly due at 65, but I will be dependent on my savings in ISAs and my SIPP for the jam. The SIPP will be used for drawdown so most of the money will be invested for a reasonable period. Like most people I have had…

Hello Following a property sale, I have a large sum of Euros abroad, which I do not want to convert into GBP just yet, as I believe the Euro will strengthen in a few year time. But I would like to transfer the money to a Euro account in the UK for tax reasons, and then invest in Euro denominated funds (eg Vanguard IE…

VLS80% plus what (if anything)?
I've got a SIPP with £37K in Vanguard LS 80% and £7K cash. Is it worth me actually investing the £7K in another fund or just top-up the VLS? Vanguard know what they are doing better than me. The only area that the VLS might be a bit thin on is Smaller Cos, but I'm no expert. Is there a fund generally considered to be a…

Money for baby from Grandma
My 71 year old mum very kindly wants to give my 1 year old baby £20,000. Obviously conscious of the 7 year rule and tax etc, where's the best place to put it? We don't want to let the baby have access to it til the age of at least 18. Is the best place in a trust fund? In a savings account? Thanks very much.

Where's Best to See £3500pa From £70k
Hi, My wife and I have a £70k investment with Scottish Widows that we hoped would generate about £300 per month or £3500 per year. It did that in the first year or so, but even though we have never withdrawn the capital or the interest, this is now under-performing for us. We are both non-tax payers and we are happy to…

Using ISA for regular income
I'd like a second (or third+) opinion on how to use my ISA allowance to get a regular income. I've max-ed out the current accounts that pay decent interest as well as this year's allowance for my cash ISA. I also have 4k directly in a Fundsmith Acc ISA that is for the long term so don't mind having that tied-up and which I…
