HSBC Sharesave
Hi all, Normally I like to be the one answering questions rather than asking them, but this time it's a subject I don't have much experience with at all. Hopefully I'll be able to get some interesting opinions on this. I've just been invited to joint the bank's Sharesave scheme at a very competitive strike price of 331p.…

What should I do with my HBOS shares?
Hello I've had about 180 shares in HBOS for ages now. I got them as part of an earlier merger and have never really taken much interest in them. Their current price is 70p, their highest price in the last year was nearly £7 and they used to be around the £10 mark. What do you think I should do with them now? Thanks

Annual Interest vs Monthly interest
I have a guaranteed reserve with the Halifax and the maturity date is 1st of May so I'm deciding for next year whether to choose the monthly interest rather than annual interest. So far I am leading towards monthly interest because that's slightly more (even though it's only £5 or so of a difference still better). Is there…

What to do with an interest free loan?
Hi all, I'm lucky enough to be one of the few students graduating this year to have secured a job, and as part of my package I am being offered a £2000 interest-free loan to be paid back monthly over three years. First of all, is there any reason for me not to take up the offer? And secondly, if I do choose to take the…

Is now a good time to buy shares in banks?
Hello As the majority of prices in bank shares seem to be low, is now a good time to buy? The government won't let the biggest banks go under and they will eventually recover, won't they? If I were to do this, which banks should I go for? Should I get shares in several or focus on just one? I've never bought shares before,…

Savings account for our baby
Hi my wife and I are looking to open an account for our 14month old little girl. We would probably set up a standing order each month out of both of our banks (we have separate accounts) of say £50 each and would also like to add extra money into the account on a as and when basis probably by paying cash over the counter.…

Lost Shares
Hi In 2000, I bought £500 worth of shares in a company called Atlantic Caspian Resources and over the course of several house moves managed to misplace the documents. I recently discovered the certificate but I cant seem to find out anything about the company other than it may now be called Denby Investment UK PLC. Can…

I have read infaltion make take off end 2009 but can interest rates afford to follow? Many thanks for your help if this is not too stupid a post!

Can I open a new ISA and also do a transfer?
Actually, I'm asking for my Dad, so I don't know the sums involved. He has a Barclays ISA from last year - which is paying a rubbish rate. He wants to open the new Barclays Golden ISA, but that doesn't allow transfers in. Can he open the Barclays Golden ISA this year with new money, and also transfer the funds in his old…

First Save
Would you invest up to £50000 with First Save the Nigerian-owned internet bank. I know they are covered by the FSA up to £50k. But there's just a negative stigma in my mind attached to the fact that they are Nigerian owned. Sould I be concerned? Robert

Savings Interest Rate Increase
I have an epetition at 10 Downing Street epetitions. The petition is asking the government to significantly increase interest rates for savers at government owned banks such as HBoS and RBS and their subsidiaries. I'm not allowed to post a link here, but if you go to epetitoins a 10 Downing St and type in John Keatings, it…

Instant Savings with outward Standing Order??
I'm looking to live off some savings for a year but it would obviously be nice to get at least a modest interest rate on the yet-to-be used capital. What I'm looking for is presumably an instant-access savings A/C into which I can pay a lump sum to cover 12 months of living expenses and that will allow me to set up an…
