If BoS goes down does it take NatWest with it?
Hi, NatWest has a great savings rate but I'm not sure how safe the bank is considering it is owned by Bank of Scotland. Will a bankrupt BoS destroy Nat West too? The rate it offers seems too good to be true but could this be due to internal problems as in the Icelandic banks that were offering 11% rates? I can't see how…

Interest rate cuts
I have been looking at the "Alliance & Leicester eSaver Issue 2" account and the "Halifax Guaranteed Saver Reward" account. Alliance and Leicester say that the esaver account will stay 0.50% above the BOE interest rate until 2010. Its currently paying 6.30%. The Halifax account is fixed at 6.00% for 12 months. Which is the…

AER Cheating
So now AA is near the top of the table with headline grabbing 6.46% AER  but the gross is 6.28% and must be paid into another account. Unless you can pay it in an account paying 6.28% gross you will not achieve 6.46% over the year. It's a cheat and the "actual" AER is 6.28%. I have complained about this practice…

Opening an account from abroad
 I am currently living abroad but would like to chase the rates (currently using FirstSave and ex-Kaupthing now ING) and open a new savings account. I liked the look of the AA account but on applying it has a notice saying not to apply if you are outside the UK. I can provide a UK address and my bank and credit…

Icesave Fixed Rate Bonds
OK it's my first post. I have £50,000, plus the interest until 8.10.2008(?) in a fixed rate bond which was due to mature in January 2010. I've not yet received the second email which will enable me to get my money out if I choose to do so but before it arrives I have to decide whether to leave the money in until the…

Where to re-invest my icesave money?
As title really, the money has just been sitting in my normal bank acount for the past few days until i decide the best way forward. I will need some of the money in the relative short term, so needs to be something with easy access. I probably won't bother putting it into another isa.

Possibly a stupid question - fixed rate savings with AA
This is quite possibly a very stupid question that I should know the answer to! I am in the process of opening a fixed rate savings account with the AA Savings, which I started before the rate drop. They have said that they will honour the rate available at the time I started the process and open the account although it…

Is this bond worth it?
Hi, first post but long time reader! I just have been to my band while out buying tropical fish of all things but I had £2000 lying spare as the wages came in as well as some other things, so I transferred it to my ISA. The lady then suggested I should try what she calls the Premium brand bond, here it is here...…

Alliance & Leicester - sneaky rate drop
I was just checking what interest rates I was getting on my variable rate accounts and: A&L esaver - opened at 6.5% early this year. Has w/d penalty - no interest on total deposit in month you make a withdrawal except in July(for sure) & at the anniversary or end of bonus. I went in eyes wide open - understood the…

Go above the FSCS limit in Halifax/Bank Of Scotland?
Do you think it is unwise to go over the FSCS limit in Bank of Scotland/Halifax? They are British and taking government cash, but is it just not worth the risk that the government might not cover anything above the FSCS limit for HBOS (or fail to rescue it)? Seems unlikely it would fail, but what with people almost losing…
