  • As far as I know they are covered by the Dutch passport scheme, up to €100k. So if a claim was needed it would have to be through the Dutch compensation scheme

Thanks. I don't think they will be reassured by that though.

  • Having been caught up in the Icesave problems I wouldnt recommend it either. Best to keep the money in the banks fully covered by the FSCS. Have a look at this article on safe savings for more info.

The Dutch compensation scheme is currently 100 000 EURO not £100 000.
  • I have to agree. After the IceSave fiasco, (and I'm still waiting for my second email, and a chance to see my missing ££ again), and the current GLOBAL money nervousness, perhaps now is not the time to be having accounts abroad. Perhaps better to take smaller, safer, interest in a UK account, for the next year or two.

That's what pmorrisson already wrote. They used a € (Euro) symbol not a £ ;)

I've suggested this however the rates being offered are derisory and a decent return is needed for pension top-up.

Unfortunately, higher returns are likely to involve greater risks in the current climate.
