transferring cash ISA into shares ISA?

Does anyone know if you can split an existing cash ISA into a new cash ISA and a new share ISA? I don't want to risk all my existing cash ISA on the stockmarket!

When I transferred my Icesave cash ISA to a F&C S&S ISA they (Icesave) would not allow partial transfers - it had to be all or nothing. So I think it will depend on whether your cash ISA provider will allow you to do a partial transfer or not. If they will then you could transfer (say) 50% to your chosen new cash ISA and when that's complete go back and transfer the remaining 50% to your chosen S&S ISA.

If your Cash ISA provider permits partial transfers, remember that current tax year Cash ISA funds can only be transferred whole under HMRC guidelines - so ensure that you specify that any transfer should consist of "partial previous tax years' funds."
