As I predicted in the kaupthing post http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=826871 That a probable cause of the problems with Icelandic banks is due to speculators betting against the currency, and default spreads, the Icelanders have had enough:…

I know this is a low 4% rate, however i was just wondering are there any catches or existing customers on MSE. I have an Icesave account with £1000 in a fixed term bond and £500 in there easy access account. However with the Active savings you get a Cashcard, so it's fairly easy access (if there is a cashpoint in site).…

ISA transfer - does the interest transfer too, or just original £3000?
Sorry if this is a stoopid question, I'm new to ISA's. I just wanted to confirm, that the interest compounds within the ISA account? I am sure I had read this when I signed up (and that this was kind of the point of the ISA!) but someone told me today that this wasn't the case, and the interest transfers out to your…

Ice Save Fixed Rate Bond problem
I opened an IceSave Easy Instant Access savings account (as a joint account with my husband) and put in 70K as it was my understanding that we would both receive the 35K compensation. I then, a month later, opened (what I thought) was a jointly owned Fixed Rate Bond account and asked for 60K to be transferred from the our…

Savings Account or ISA?
I have a little job on the side from my full time job where I am invoicing the company for my time. When I get paid I want to be able to put a quarter of the money aside so that when I do my tax return the money is there to pay my tax/NI. Would it be better for me to open a savings account for this, or open up a mini cash…

Hi All, I'm just starting to think about putting money aside in ISAs etc and I wanted to "bounce" the following idea off some more experienced folk: - I've got about £1500 and a regular monthly £200 to put into an ISA for this this coming Tax year (08/09) and was looking at the A&L ISA Issue 2 at 10% providing I open a…

With several Reg Savers I have opened the account later in a calendar month and then switched the Standing Order payments to the first of the month in order to take maximum advantage of the high interest rates on offer. Taxes in investments
Hi there folks, I have a question I hope someone out there might be able to answer. I took out an investment with a bank which matures in a few years time. When that date comes and I get back the investment + return, what exactly am I taxed on? Is it the entire sum, or the return?
