Nationwide's New Keypad

Hi,
I've just received a neat-looking keypad thingy (looks a bit like the keypads you punch your number in in shops when paying for things). It has a slot for inserting your credit card – but so far no instructions have been issued as to how it should be used.
I wondered whether anyone else had received one of these?

Natwest/RBS were rolling these out last yesr. It's only required for certain online transcations. So far I have not had to use mine, but I take it with me when I go abroad in case I need it whilst I am doing some online banking.
Knowing my luck I would try to do a transaction and it would ask for a ocode from the reader!Hoping this year is better than the last.0 -
Think the natwest one is only needed to add a new or amend a payee and things like that.
You can ring them up to do it instead (they've never managed to activate my keypad so I have to do that).0 -
I've had my Natwest keypad for several months and not used it. As it looked like the Nationwide unit
...I've just tried putting my NW card in and entering my PIN. Sure enough it said 'PIN correct' and generated an eight figure code.
...and I've just tried it in my Barclays 'PIN Sentry'
.. and it seems to work
..and I've just tried Barclays debit card with the NatWest reader ..and that works too!
[Looks like we will all end up with several units where one would do!].....under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam0 -
These make online banking a great deal more secure as the 8 digit passcode generated is only good for about a minuite, and totally unhackabale.
The card readers will all have different algorythms, and weapons grade encryption in their software, this will be linked to the banks on line server algorythms, and your account card and pin details.
So if you try to use a barclays reader with your RBS on line account , and card, it will generate a code - but the code will probably not work.
Therefore for you account to be hacked on line, for any monetary transaction that depends on it, you would need to give a thief all you details, a card, the card's pin, and your specific reader.0 -

You can use any Nationwide Card Reader, or one from any other UK Bank or Building Society.
Please note: Only ever use a Card Reader from a trusted source.0 -

Its for use solely in conjunction with Internet Banking so will be able to be used from anywhere that the Internet Banking can be accessed from I would imagine.0 -
Would it have been possible to use this as a password storage protection device - pin number and debit card access only and then store numerous passwords inside?
Bit of a task remembering so many mothers maiden names place of birth first school etc etc how do you cope?0
