Tax on Shares
Hi All Hope you can help. My dad gave me some M&S shares (10280 of them). The certificate says "the number of fully paid ordinary shares of 25 pence each blah blah). I really dont think he bought them for 25 pence each - so I'm not really sure what that means. But anyway, we need to cash them in soon. We're gonna do some…

Regular savers - £3k / £250 ... why?
Hi, Something has been puzzling me a bit and I'm hoping that someone can tell me the answer. High interest regular savers always (AFAIK) seem to have a £250 monthly cap. Why this figure, and also why is it so standard? It's just as intriguing that it equals the amount that you can put into a mini cash ISA each year -…

What is your net worth?
After the 'What would you do with £1M thread', I wondered for how many posters that was a daily challenge :D So how much are you really worth, after subtracting mortgage, overdrafts, CC debt etc. and using a sensible valuation of your house(s). Be honest now!

When is interest calculated?
I've often wondered when the interest on my accounts is calculated. For instance, I have HSBC current and savings accounts, and I like to 'sweep' my unused cash into my savings account to maximise the interest I get, which is quite significant. But when should I do this? 6pm, 7pm, midnight? If anybody knows, and would like…

Is there any merit in keeping BS accounts?
Sorry if this has been asked before. My wife has circa £500 in a Leeds & Holbeck BS accouint. From what I can gather, it's earning a terrible 0.5% interest. She also has a Yorkshire BS account with a little in. Is there any merit in 'hanging on' to accounts like these or have the days of pay-outs from BS mergers well and…

BestInvest v IFA v DIY
In about 2000 I became self employed and decided to put £7000 per year in ISAs instead of having a normal pension. At the time I chose to do this via BestInvest. Over time the stock market dropped and my £21K became £15K. In the meantime I decided to stick with property and rent out my first house instead of selling and…
