Investment expectations
Guys, I know this is going to be a really difficult question to answer but I'd appreciate a shot at it, if you could. I'm looking to invest some money, a lump sum say £30K. If we presume risk can be measured on a scale of 1 -10 with 1 being no risk and 10 being high risk and I was willing to accept a risk vlue of 5. What…

Halifax Childs Regular Saver, Not Impressed
Now I may be thick when it comes to these things, but when i see something that tells me 10% gross AER if I save regularly for a year, I'd expect that, not under 5%. I guess my expectations were wrong, I set up 2 of these one each for my Kids, and put approx £25 in each a month. the accounts came to term this month, just…

transfers from Barclays to Principality, Cheshire, Bradford & Bingley
A tip and warning for the regular saver brigade in particular: Payments from Barclays to Principality BS, Skipton BS, Cheshire BS, and probably Bradford & Bingley, too, are immediate because they use Barcleys as a clearing bank. Those who try to optimize the regular saver pay-ins by transferring before the 1st, beware: the…

Does anyone know of a calculator or system that will help to work out the following: If you invest an amount - say £100,000 and receive 4% net interest, then each year you draw out enough to make an income of £12,000 per year, how long would the money last! Thanks for any advice.

The Leeds and AER.
For some time now I have, with some success through the help of contributors to this site, been attempting to get a proper understanding of the relationship between AER and gross rates for different savings accounts. But here’s one I can’t follow: Leeds Building Society’s Postal Account bond pays 5.25%gross and…

Let's get a grip! So the best Instant Access A/C is Royal Bank of Scotland @ 5.25%?
There seems to be a lot of headless chicken stuff going on in this forum at the moment.....(ok.....ok....maybe just a little then!). In summary, over the past few weeks the A&L Directsaver A/C was promising the best return @ 5.38%? Am I right? And over the last few days we've all begun to realise that their definition of…
