Alternative to CTF?
My eldest daughter was born a few months too early to benefit from a CTF voucher. At the moment she has her savings in a Halifax Save4it account but is there a way of investing in something similar to a CTF Eg Equities moving into cash as she nears 18? Thanks

Best Regular Savings Account
Martin's article on Regular Savers says "Head and shoulders above the rest is Lloyds TSB’s Monthly Saver, for its whopping 8% fixed interest rate, flexibility, and potential for higher saving". You must also open a Lloyds TSB current account but it can be their Classic account (minimum £1 and no monthly credit commitment).…

Regular Saver Interest
O.k how can I compare the interest I would receive from a regular saver account with the interest I would receive from a normal account taking into account that in the regular saver account only the first months deposit would be getting the whole interest rate and the rest of it would be for the proportion of the year it's…

What would happen if a UK bank went bust?
Probably in the wrong forum for this so sorry in advance. I've searched the web and this forum and to no avail. I'd like to know what would happen to my savings if my bank went bust? I read somewhere that you are "insured" for want of a better word and up to £32K you receive 90% of your cash back (I've probably got the…

Checked on my Regular Saver yesterday, to find interest has already been added before the 12 payments have been made. Month 1 was January 2006 with £250. Each month payments of £250. Final payment will be December 2006. So was surprised to see net interest added £91.23 yesterday. Rang to find out why and was told that they…

ISA v Regular Saver
Regarding the question of whether it is better to contribute to an ISA or via a regular saver. Does is basically come down to putting 3K (if you have it of course) into one of the higher rate ISA ( NS&I , Ruffler or Kent Reliance for example) at the start of the tax year. Then for regular savings max each month into one of…

How much can you save?
I thought I would post a new thread being a newbie to this. There seems to be a diary for getting out of debt, and clearing your mortgage, but not one for the amount you can save to put towards something. I'm saving for a deposit for a house and am aiming for about £16,000. It would be useful to log how much I can save in…
