Anyone else's dog had cruciate ligament surgery?
After a couple of weeks of trying anti-inflammatory medication, the vet has decided to take x-rays with a view to surgery. I'm just wanting to know how other people helped their dog recover from the surgery & how long it takes before it heals. Thanks in advance.

Cats Tail problem
My cat Daisy is around 3 years old, and stayed out last night, now today she is wagging her tail very quickly, and can't seem to get comfortable sitting down. we have examined her tail and there are no lumps or bumps, but where she had been sitting there is a tiny spot of blood. She isn't in pain so far, or else she would…

Beware "Good Boy" Giant Ball Tugger Dog Toy!!
We adopted an elderly (small for the breed) Rotti from the local dog's home last week and went to the pet shop today to get her a tug toy as she loves to play tug-of-war. We spent £6.50 on a Good Boy Giant Ball Tugger, thinking a good brand would last. The size of the ball indicates it is for a large dog and it says on the…

Dry Skin - suggestions
Hi We've just re-homed another staffie x dog (my last dog was put to sleep in March this year, and to be honest I'd not thought about replacing him, just concentrating on my other staffie x. However, my wife suggested we have a look, and 6 weeks later I find myself with a 7 year old Staffie x, who, apart from an occasional…

How long does stronghold take to work?
One of my dogs has been scratching like mad, so have given her and the other two a dose of stronghold over the weekend. She's still scratching and I really hate to see her so uncomfortable, so just wondered when I could see an effect from the treatment and if there's anything else I should/can do to alleviate the itchiness…

Stupid dog and her obsession with fly catching.
My youngest has developed this quite irritating habit of trying to attack flies. Silly girl doesn't realise the reason most of her attempts are an abject failure is because the fly's vision allows it to see her clumsy form coming. Anyway, I've kinda let this slide but last night a fly landed on my arm and the daft dog went…

Awful Adoption Experience - Advice?
New to this so bear with me. I planned for years to get a dog when my lifestyle would allow it, and have been looking for the right rescue dog for nearly a year. I've taken it very seriously, have never agreed with buying breeder puppies, and have walked away from dogs I fell in love with because I knew they wouldn't suit…

I'm convinced he's trying to find treasure!
Hi My 3yr old jack Russell cross has developed an odd habit! A couple of months back, he started trying to chew his bum all the time. I wormed him, de-flead, had his anal glands done (3 wks ago now and a vet had a good feel around and said she didn't think there was anything else wrong. But it's not stopped. The vet showed…

Why do such idiots have dogs?
I'd just got back from taking my dog for a walk when someone I know was passing my house with her daughter and neice. They stopped for a chat and a fuss, then we noticed, coming down the road, a woman with a staffy off the lead, so I put my dog in the house. I've seen this woman before and so has my friend, she's always…

Rescue cats won't come downstairs
Hi, Me and OH took on two 12 year old cats as due to personal problems their owners could no longer keep them. We have had them almost 7 weeks now and they still won't come downstairs. When we got them we put them in our spare bedroom because we already have two cats and a cat flap and we wanted to give them time to settle…

Sitting here in shock!!
My dog's insurance with Sains has just gone up at its renewal from £65.04 per month to £130.48!!!! and his excess from £75 to £125 or 15% of the cost of treatment. It's his age, he'll be 10 in November and the claims that have been made, he has two ongoing claims so no chance of shopping around either. Think I'd…

Stray cat... Showcase cinema, Reading
Hi there Just posting on the off-chance... We went to the pictures yesterday and on the way out we saw a small (young?) and skinny looking cat (too dark to really see colourings but looked sort of tabby). Anyway, the cinema is right next to a motorway, a huge roundabout and a complicated road system and is a long way from…
