UPDATE
my 14yr old collie/lab had a stroke while i was out on Thursday, I came home to find her falling about and not able to walk very well.
It is heartbreaking to see her like that, vet said she will be ok hopefully in a few days, while I am so glad to still have her I am so worried that she doesnt want to eat, (I know she will when ready)
She has been with me since 6 weeks old and been my best friend when I was on my own for about 10 years, just feel very sad and down at the moment

So sorry to hear about your doggie... give her a few days, like the vet says, you may be surprised how she picks up.
Is she drinking OK? If not, maybe call the vet again... drinking is very important - but they can go a few days without eating.
Many years ago I had an old cat who had a stroke at 14 - she was wobbly on her feet, got sicky and her eye went a bit funny... we were so scared for her but she did pick up quite quickly... we were amazed by how she recovered.
Give your girl some quiet time, comfie space, company if she wants it and some special treats and then see how she goes...
I hope she gets well soon.

Its hard not to worry when they are ill but try not to worry too much.
I had a dog years ago which had a stroke, she had a fit at the same time and ended up in a coma and under sedation at the vets for nearly a week. She was so bad they were talking about putting her to sleep.
To cut a long story short, when we got her back, she was very wobbly, would try to dash about like she always had but kept falling over, bumping into things etc. The vets said that she would be like that for possibly up to a month because her brain had been affected on one side but that the cells would either regenerate or she would learn to compensate.
I can't remember how long it took as its 30 odd years ago, but I remember thinking at the time that it hadn't really taken long, probably a week or two weeks for her to be walking again as though nothing had happened. Occassionally, if she was sitting straight up looking at you, she looked slightly lop sided, but most of the time you would never have known what had happened.
We were told to try to keep her quiet and calm, no loud noises or bright lights. Give her body time to recover.
Let us know how she gets on but I'm sure you'll be coming on here soon saying she is getting a lot better.
HTH
Hugs to you xx0 -
You must be devasted, but with let her have the time to recover. As mentioned above her fluid intake is vitally important, if she's not drinking that could really hamper recover, and a day on a drip at the vets will really give her body a boost. Thanks everyone.:)
I can see a bit of an improvement already not much but its there, she is out the back at the moment sunbathing which apart from sniffing when out for a walk is her favourite thing to do.
can only get better now.Treat other's how you like to be treated.

Really good to hear that doggie is looking better - is she drinking though? Particularly if she's out in the sun and getting hot.
If she is drinking then that's good - if not, then call the vet. Fluid intake is really, really important.:hello:0 -

Thanks for updating us, keep letting us know.
So glad you are already seeing an improvement, I'm sure, like my dog, she will continue to improve. Glad she is enjoying the sunshine, as Tiddly says, make sure she drinks, perhaps even try getting something like mince, cooking it and liquidising it with the water it was cooked in, see if she will drink that. It could be that she has difficulty swallowing big food at the moment.
Let us know again how she is getting on.0 -
Hope she's ok, Harry's nan...and you too.0

Fingers crossed for both of you XXX0
