Ellie's first gotcha day
A year ago today a scabby wee ex puppy farm Bichon came into my life, I didn't want a Bichon, I was looking for a rescue sheltie but there were none up here in rescue at the time. Anyway I heard about Ellie from one of the girls over on Puppy Love and thought why not. Ellie is terrified of men, I can't get her to sit, she…

Do you stay with your pet when the vet takes blood?
I've just been reading another post about a very nervous cat going to the vet. i have a 14 year old who hyperventilates, shakes like a jelly and whose gums turn blue with the stress of the visit. Unfortunately she needs to go for blood tests because she has pancreatitis. The vet always takes her away to take the blood and…

I adopted your dog today......... The one you left at the pound; The one you had for ten years And no longer wanted around I adopted your dog today..... Did you know that he's lost weight? Help with Nature Diet v Wainwrights Wet Dog Food please?
I'm a bit baffled by this....not hard though!! :o ;) Thinking about changing one of my dogs onto wet food, just can't get my head around the quantities for both of these foods the ingredients seem very similar etc. but the amount she would need is so different it just seems wrong! For an example these are the Lamb & Rice…

E&L (pet-insurance.co.uk) being mean?
Hi - moved this from insurance section as not much response. Any advice on how to deal with the dreaded E&L con-surance company would be very much appreciated. My pet insurance company have refused to pay out on my vet bill. The reason is because when I renewed (been with them 3 yrs) I did not state that the vet had noted…

Your views re a nervous cat?
Hi, I'd really like your views on a situation I'm currently facing. I've 4 cats, they are taken to the vet regularly for their boosters and check-ups. We all went again early last week. My problem is with my very timid rescue cat. Since the vet visit she is seriously traumatized and refuses to come out from under my bed,…

Kittens ( 1 or 2 )
We are thinking of having a cat again, we have 2 dogs but OH has always missed her cat, we had him for 17 years, the older dog is used to cats so we just need to concern ourselves with the younger dog, are there any benefits of having 1 or 2 kittens?

Buying a kitten
Im looking at buying a kitten, but I want to ask for an opinion please? I found a gorgeous black and white female not too far from me. I phoned up for some information and I found out that no vaccinations had been given and the kitten was 12 weeks old! Surely this kitten should have had 1 or even 2 vaccinations by now? I…

cat coming into the house
Hiya I have four cats,2 males and 2 females. I have a catflap which they all freely use without any problems. Recently i have noticed the smell of cat wee in my utility room. I thought i may be one of mine and wondered why they would start doing this. I now suspect it is a big ginger cat that keeps coming in and eating…

Varying cat foods
Is it recommended to vary food for cats so they don't become over-reliant on one type? Not just brands, but textures and types too.

Cat won't stop meowing!
One of my cats Zorro went outside when the weather was nice (end of May-ish) and we haven't seen him since. However this morning he turned up safe and sound, meowing very noisily, in fact my friend who was round came downstairs and said he could hear a cat meowing outside but couldn't see one. About 5/10 minutes later…

Latest cat show results and piccies!
Well, it's been a while since our last show, so to have a double show yesterday was great! It's basically two cat clubs sharing the venue, so there's twice the amount of classes to compete in, but all judged on the same day! Spot and Lula did really well! Spot earned 2 Premier Certificates, so he is now a Premier Cat. Lula…

Are there more ticks around this year?
Until this summer my dog has never had a tick, despite regular walks in open countryside with long grass. This summer however, it seems to be a weekly event to find a tick on him when we get back from our walks. I even discovered one on my back after a walk (it must have crawled up my jeans and under my shirt) and I didn't…

Cat peeing over edge of litter tray
The title says it all really. Puss is 6 years old. Spent first year of her life in a flat, and since then been in a house - but she doesn't like going outside unless you go with her. She has the same litter tray that she has always had from a kitten. She has always been excellent with it, and even as a kitten she has not…

Halifax Pet Insurance? Beware!
Had a letter this morning stating that Halifax were withdrawing from the pet insurance market and my cover with them would cease from 5th August. They included a "quote" from an alternative insurer, Petwise. What they fail to mention anywhere in their letter is that if you do not contact them and "cancel", your policy will…
