Halifax Pet Insurance? Beware!

Had a letter this morning stating that Halifax were withdrawing from the pet insurance market and my cover with them would cease from 5th August. They included a "quote" from an alternative insurer, Petwise. What they fail to mention anywhere in their letter is that if you do not contact them and "cancel", your policy will automatically transfer to Petwise (via BDML Connect), who are of course 50% more expensive.

I rang them and was told that they didn't want to leave anyone without cover, but at the same time I know there will be people who assume that their policy has just lapsed and take cover out elsewhere not realising that they will also get a "renewed" policy from Petwise.

Part of the problem is that people with pets with pre-existing conditions will have cover excluded for these conditions if they move to a new insurer

Thanks, I did try searching before posting. I'm annoyed about the way they've automatically moved policies to their other insurers without giving a choice. It should be the other way round, give you a quote and you ring them if you want to take it up. Especially at 50% dearer with half the cover.
