I have 3 cats one whom is indoor only, and who drinks tons (due to her thyroid i assume) and so pees like anything.
I change the litter every other day but it seems as soon as ive cleaned it the litter at the bottom of the tray is soaked though leaving pee that doesnt get soaked up.
I use the tesco everyday value at the mo.
I just feel like a slave to the cat litter box!
hope that makes sense!
Any help or advice ild be really grateful!

Have you tried a good quality clumping litter so you can just scoop out the wet parts? If you use an underbed storage box or covered tray you can 'deep fill' to avoid any puddles. I like Oko Plus (wood crumbs which are NOT the same as wood pellets) has excellent absorbency and some rave about chick crumb (made from maize).

Oko Plus is not cheap but I do find a little goes a long way - tho there was a recent a thread on an alternative litter you might check out

Never tried it but this straw litter claims to be super absorbent

I find the wooden pellets cat litter is quite good for wee as it softens and clumps up nicely, and doesn't smell as bad unlike the white grainy type stuff.0

Second for the wood pellet stuff.I also find that the gray stuff gives off a lot of dust &,as Daisy's litter tray is in a corner of the kitchen (no where else for it) my worktop, kettle ect gets covered in fine white dust.0 -
Another vote for the clumping wood based litters, either Oko or Tigerino Ecoverde.
However....it is not normal for a cat to drink and pee a lot so she does need to see the vet for blood tests. If she is on thyroid meds it may be that she needs an adjustment of dose or of dosing schedule ( ie Felimazole should be split nto two doses and given 12 hours apart for best coverage )0 -

Yes, the dust is annoying, even if you try to cover up the pouring it still puffs up on impact with anything. I've taken to keeping my fresh litter in a sealed bin type thing and just jugging it out with an old jug, seems to be less dust that way when I've got that litter.0 -
You might find this thread interesting https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4030425 - we do whitter on a bit
- so skip that!
However, results so far seem good & I've certainly found it really good (2 cats - both get out but won't go outside:p) so a fair bit of pee in the tray & it seems to be coping really well.
Wood pellets also do really well with pee (what I used before) and are great for absorbing as it turns to sawdust (no smell:)) - I was using As*da Smart*price which is £2.81 for 10L. HTHGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
2016 Sell: £125/£250
£1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!0 -
Thanks guys,
Ive bought some Mr T wood pellets to try before the more expensive options
Hopefully this will work0 -
There are 2 types of wood pellet. Those that become sawdust with wet and those that clump. world's best and Okoplus are clumping.0

i have three litter tray and try to ensure i pick up trays that have a deep base, i have a large covered tray with a flap on (cat always get confused on wich way is out or just sits and boxes it!) i try and buy clumping litter where possible as it seems the most absorbant, instruction usualkly say fill 1 inch from base but i fill as though its a deep hole in the ground and wip up all the flicked up stuff the cats does when they go, i have one extremely large cat, he mainly uses the covered tray as he can fit in it, the otheres he struggle to fit his backside in, 4 of my ragdolls are indoor only cats, and i have 2 tabs that refuse to go in a tray and morning are the dash to the door to be let out.
wood chips tend to amplify smell of urine, even the scented pine, so i tend to opt for a clumping litter and when i refill i usually put a small amount of washing poweder (citrus fresh mmm) in the bottom to absorb the longest of pees that dont get a shnce to get absorbed and dampen the smell. i changed the litter every 48hours and clean out big doo's when their done.0 -
