Feeding a cat (reasonably) cheaply
Hi All. I've been feeding my 3 cats on Costco dry catfood for a couple of years but am looking to change - am thinking about cancelling my membership and after googling the cat food I'm reading some scary reviews :( . Which complete dry foods would you recommend? Have used Hills in the past but its pricey and can't really…

Harley's recall has gone.
Our lab, who is nearly 4 has been walked 3 times a day by someone else for a few months now. (Reasons why are not relevant.) I took him out for the first time in a while, had him off the lead in the field as I always used to and all was fine until he saw other dogs. He took off at a rate of knots towards them and totally…

Dog urea levels
We took our pooch to the vets on tuesday for her monthly steroid injection. They suggested that we have her blood tested again to see how bad her kidneys are now. We are told that the result should be 6-8 and it was 36 in April and is now in the 60's. They said this is bad (as they did in april). I want to know what this…

Cat flea collar
The Cat (that's his name :o ) has had a flea collar on since November last year. I've decided to order some Frontline as he's been scratching himself a lot lately & I'm pretty sure he's got some little beasties taking up residence _pale_ Does anyone know if it's safe to administer Frontline (the one that goes on the back…

My boy's outside ..... in thunder and lightning
OK, so I know he'll be tucked up somewhere and is probably snug as a bug, but still worried:(. It was beautiful & sunny before & he popped out but it's now pelting down, thundering and the odd bit of lightning. Have yelled and my wee girl cat appeared at a rate of knots across the garden, but no sign of my boy. Have…

And this season, the fashionable dogwalker is wearing....
what? The reason I'm asking is that since we've had our beagle pup, I've been wearing an old pair of jogging bottoms and a jacket when on early morning walk duty (easy to pull on when half asleep ;) ) but can foresee a time when that's not going to be enough - from either the cold or rain. So what do you experienced ladies…

Shocked at the price of kittens!
(Just typing my thoughts, not really a question as such!) I would love a kitten but can't have one just now due to having an older mog, rabbit and 2 massive aqauriums. The rabbit loves our cat and I fear any new feline may take advantage of bunny naievity! However, I love looking around our local animal welfare website and…

Cat Litter and babies
I have two indoor Cats. My daughter has just told me she is pregnant. She lives with me. I'm worried that if she still lives with me when the baby is at the crawling stage that it will be unhygenic. The litter box will not be within the babies reach but i'm talking about when the cats are walking around the floor after…

Second Dog?
I'm hoping all you knowledgeable people can help me. I have an almost 3 year old (large) mutt and have been thinking about getting a second dog. For those of you who have 2 dogs how much harder is it? I am aware of the financial side of it and will be sorting insurance etc but am I just off my rocker for thinking about…

Muzzle Recommendations?
We've decided to get a muzzle for one of our dogs as a precautionary measure. In case it's helpful, here's the background on her: She was always better at making friends off-leash than on-leash. We've wasted money on useless (genuinely!) trainers and classes - classes are no good because she's afraid of other dogs, so…

Car seat covers.
Hi All, Not sure if I'm posting this in the right place but hoping for some useful advice. I have a Citroen C5 hatchback in which I cart about my spaniel and GSD on a regular basis. Due to the way the back seat has a moulded plastic base I cannot find any seat covers to fit that stop the hair/wet paws, slobbering etc etc.…

Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease - how to manage?
Hi all, Back in February of this year I lost my beautiful cat Booty to FLUTD :( tried everything (well, the vets did) but unfortunately he was completely unable to pee and he had to be put down. A couple of months later I got a new cat, Sherlock from the Cats Protection League. And yesterday I got the shock that he has the…

Spots on dogs
And no I don't mean Dalmatians lol If you have followed my other thread you may know I've been having a few issues with Jack, an 8 year old Scottish Terrier. He's currently undergoing treatment for a severe water infection but has other issues the vet wants to address next week when we have got over this particular hurdle.…

What are catteries like?
Hey all, I just came back from holiday today, I've been away for a week and left my two cats at a local cattery. My friend was supposed to be looking after them but bailed at the last moment and it's the only one I could find but to be honest it's one I had thought about before and had thought was good. I had worries when…
