I don't need that much to retire on living in a poor part of the midlands ( Mansfield ) a pot of around 150k will get me by in my late 50's as I plan to semi retire ( carry on working self employed ) but go into a…

Unclaimed pension tax relief
Hi there, I am taking a closed look to my pensiona and I've found something worrying me. There's a note in the pension provider my employer is using that says: this is where I am getting confused. I have been a high-rate tax-payer in the year 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 (possibly during 2017-2018, I need to check my Psomething…

What a Pension mess ... any help?
Long story shortened - in 1993, just had children decided to set up a pension plan as I had left the armed forces. Set it up with Nat West in 1993 and opted out of SERPS. At the end of 1995, received a letter stating that I had been given wrong information and that the policy wouldn't reach what they said it would achieve…

General Portfolio
Hi, I am seeking some advice. Around 1989 I joined a pension scheme with a company called General Portfolio. I recall visiting their offices located in Farnborough, Hampshire. I recall paying x amount of money, before deciding to opt out as I took on a job that offered its own pension scheme. Since then and now, I have…

Squeaky bum time!
Portfolio has lost nearly all the gains it's made since December, now sitting at just +0.8% which will probably get wiped out at the next valuation point. But I don't plan to retire for another 10-15 years, so I sense a buying opportunity will soon be presenting itself! :-)

IFA fund management costs
Have seen lots of discussion on here about IFA costs as a % of total portfolio value and what that % should be. However, I was wondering whether there are any IFAs who operate on the basis of taking a % cut of the INCREASE in portfolio value rather than a % of the total value which means they don’t feel much of the pain of…

Uncomfortable ...
I did a spreadsheet analysis at the start of the year. It showed me that my required drawdown with annual indexation, plus DB and state pension when available, was sustainable based on equity returns of -20%, -20% then +4% pa thereafter (thus allowing for a bad sequence of return risk). Inflation assumed to be 3%. Drawdown…

Huge mistake transferring Civil Service Pension
My husband has transferred his civil service pension into the LGPS and I think he's made a massive mistake costing a fortune. I don't think he intended to and ticked the wrong option as he was discussing only transferring the Alpha portion, which was an option. He had 20 years in Classic before being moved into Alpha. So…

Pension forecast
Does his sound right to you? If you have a pension pot of £45k, and retire at 65, the monthly pension payment would be £94 per month. Just had hubby’s pension forecast and that seems low to me. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Maths question: Basic Rate Sal Sac with employers NI contribution above annual allowance
Does it make sense to sal sac over the annual allowance for a basic rate taxpayer if you also benefit from 10% of the employer NI saving and will pay basic rate in drawdown? £100 sal sac plus 10% employer ni = £110 less 20% AA charge = £88 less 15% income tax on drawdown = £74.80 £100 less 20% income tax less 12%NI = £68…

I am confused by the LTA tax free lump sum amount with enhanced protection , I have recently been awarded an enhancement factor of approx. 0.3 due to several years overseas whilst still paying into a recognised UK pension. Quoting pension values on Form E for a divorce
I am going through a divorce and both parties have prepared draft Form Es. I am aware that my estranged wife’s annual pension projection is ~15% higher than mine. However, for the "cash equivalent value” (on which divorce financial settlements are usually based), my “pot” is double that of my wife. The only notable…
