Wheel chairs - any tips
It is becoming very obvious that I will need a wheelchair. I have a serious heart condition and cannot walk far as well as walking very very slowly. My family are having discussions about wheelchairs. We know it is possible to hire one but would prefer to buy one. I'm sorry if this post is in the wrong place and I will try…

Claims firm to launch NHS care fees challenge
http://cheselden.co.uk/news.html The service provided by these people looks at first glance to tick the right boxes - there appears to be nothing to pay upfront, and the basis appears to be "no win no fee".[Never ever pay money up front to claims firms.] If anyone decides to investigate the service, please report back.

Why?
Why was the "Who owns the house" thread locked?

who owns the house?
mum has asked me a question which i don't know the answer so maybe someone here can help me mum & dad own their house and are 'tenants in common' - their wills state that the party that dies first, their half goes to the children & the remaining partner stays in the house until their demise when their half goes to the…

Whatever happened to the Carbuncle?
Does anyone remember the Carbuncle? (have I spelt it right?). I haven't heard of them for years, those great big angry red sores that you had to put a kaolin poltice on to draw them. I don't know what made me all of a sudeen think of them but they seemed to be pretty rife in the 50's and 60's, have they disappeared along…

Our shrinking larders. Are they??
Well my larder should be shrinking at 60 so I am going to make a determined effort to shrink it over the next few months. It took me ages to get used to buying less bread so having a full larder is pretty understandable seeing that I am one of the old-school make-it-from-scratch brigade. Whatever spice or herb is needed,…

Have you got your new pass yet?
I forgot to tell you I was given my new Bus pass last week. It is a temporary one to tide us over whilst we are away. Once we have returned and our new pass has arrived in the post, then we have to take the temp one back. It seems the passes are being distributed this week (after we've left home).

Worried 'bout my mum
My mum has contacted me, she's in her 60s, rather upset, i think what brought it to a head, was the fact that she had 2 more teeth pulled and old age really seems to be kicking in, she quoted some price of £2000 she'd gotten from somewhere for dentures, the car MOT is due etc etc, she went onto explain, that she was not…

Sending original birth certificate through the post
I will soon be applying for the annual fuel allowance. I have downloaded the form and notes and see they are asking me to send the original of my birth certificate through the post, in order that they may verify my age. This is unbelievable. I have already had correspondence with the pension office, so they clearly know my…

Continuing Health Care - Preparing to fight PCT's decision
Long Story so I'll try to keep it short. My MIL (age 84) was hospitalised for 7 weeks after a fall in July 2007. The family were advised to look for a care home as in their medical opinion my MIL could not return to her sheltered accommodation due to a high risk of falls and the council's care team being unable to provide…

Extra Fuel Allowance announced in Budget
The additional fuel allowances announced in yesterday's budget seemed good news (about time!), but then when Cameron stood up to reply, he said that it was only for ONE year. Last night's news and papers don't seem to mention this all-important aspect. It's hardly worth doing if it's only for one year, and typical of this…

does the menopause ever end?
I wonder if you ladies would like to share your experiences about the menopause. 31/2 years ago I was taken off HRT after being on it for 10 years. 3 weeks later I went straight into all the symptoms, hot flushes, mood swings, trouble sleeping, depression and as yet they have not stopped. I have tried all the recommended…

Age for Winter fuel payment to rise from 60 to 65
As someone due to get their first winter fuel payment this year I checked the govt web site to see if I needed to claim and was surprised to see that between 2010 & 2020 the age for receiving this payment is going to rise from 60 to 65. It appears that Mr Brown and his cronies are hell bent on making sure that the older…

Despite searching I can't find.............
Despite searching, using "over 60 discounts/concessions" etc. I cant find any of the posts that advise where anyone over 60 can claim a discount and the days these are available. Like many of you I suspect, I've often wondered if we could somehow have one area where we could add our discoveries so that at any given moment…
