Car recall
Hello My Fiat 500 has developed a gear box problem. Apparently this was a common problem and Fiat recalled the cars in 2015 - the recall expired in 2016 before I owned the car. My quote for the necessary work to be carried out is £1500. I wondered if anyone could advise as to whether or not Fiat should still do the work on…

Unexpected DVLA "extra handling fee of 10%" on road tax
Hi, due to being on furlough I SORNed my car for a few months and then decided to sell it, I started the process of taking off the private reg plate and as I was waiting a lifetime for the new V5 to come in with its original registration number on; I was unable to tax it by DD to get it back on the road to take it to the…

Value of a Full Service History
Hi all, Looking for a new motor, Mercedes C Class Coupe 68 plate or newer. Going rate for the spec I'm after is between £23.5-£25.5k. I have found one with 22,000 miles on the clock from a dealership but it doesn't have a full service history. The dealership have advised that they can provide an invoice for an 'oil and…

Petrol vs Diesel
I have a petrol, costs £185 a year to tax. I also have a diesel, costs £30. I was under the impression diesels had become cheaper to tax but it seems since 2017 the rules changed and many diesels pay £155 or so, while petrol equivalent's pay next to nothing. But our (11 plate) diesel is also pretty nippy. My 56 plate Focus…

Anyone upgraded to LED bulbs?
I'm looking at replacing my stock halogen bulbs in my car. Takes W4 bulbs and I'll need to sort the main and dipped headlights. LED's would be nice, any recommendations or guidance? I'm looking on eBay but that place can be like the wild west.

PCP & Whatever, Any Good?
I know it's very different for each contract but trying to decide without being sold, whether a PCP (or whatever it's called) is good value for my circumstances. How much do you pay? For what car? Do you have to pay road tax? What about MOTs and such? I know for new cars, they're MOT exempt for a few years. Thanks

Car parts swapped whilst at garage
Hello all Briefly,
booked my car in for a full service and MOT, garage said at the time of booking
that it would be collected and returned within one day. I checked the
car before it was collected for all the usual pre MOT things. Car was collected
but was returned after two days. On its’
return I noticed that the engine…

Car tax changes
I keep seeing articles on google news feeds about possible changes in the way we will be charged for car tax per mile we travel? I have a citroen C1 and currently only pay £20 a year, but if I get charged per mile its going to be extremely expencive as I live in a rural area and need a car to travel the 9 miles to work…

Halfords experience
On 2nd January my son took his car to Halfords
Autocentre in Walsall for a headlight bulb replacement. Whilst there a Halfords
technician reversed into my sons car badly damaging the drivers car door so
that the locking mechanism no longer functions properly. The manager apologised
and promised to sort a replacement door…

Trace driver details
Is there any way to track down a driver (registered keeper) of a vehicle without going through insurance and police? Had my car scraped this morning whilst in the supermarket, right along my driver's door by some idiot trying to park up, I caught it all on dash cam so have the car details. Fortunately it looked far worse…

Insurance query
My mums parked car was driven into last night by an elderly neighbour, and is almost certainly a write off. We have the neighbours insurance details, should she be contacting them or her own? She is disabled and cannot get around without a car, so I'm trying to help her navigate the world of insurance companies as quickly…

Motor Ombudsman - worthwhile?
I've got a dispute with a garage over my car, which doesn't look like getting resolved. They are a member of the motor ombudsman, but the Trust Pilot reviews are terrible (e.g. them taking 18 months to 3 years to resolve anything, not just the sour people unhappy with the outcome). Is there much point in using the…

Car Lease Query.....something doesn't feel right....
I currently lease a car and that is due to expire in April. I have sourced a car that can be delivered at the end of March and after asking I was told that the only upfront pre delivery payment required is a "doc fee" of £360 to the leasing company. This is normal for leasing a car and what I did on my last lease. As I was…

TFL Congestion Charges
I'm hoping I can get some advice here. I've tried TFL twice and they are not helpful. I went into London at the start of October 2020. I usually catch a train as it's cheaper and more convenient, but because of COVID and the fact that I have someone vulnerable living with me opted to drive. I booked parking out of the…

Rear drum brake service
Hi, I had my service recently at the dealership via a service plan, they advised I have a rear brake service, I have drum brakes, is this necessary or just something they try and sell to those who may not be all that clued up about cars? I ask this as the dealership quoted £60 for this service where a local garage I've had…

Since July last year, I have been working from home due to covid, my car have been sat in driveway except to supermarket once a week, I haven't thought about car insurance (wouldn't have mess it around with cancellation/NCB etc), but in April I am due for renewal, base on previous year, I estimate renewal to be around…
