PCP, deposit and personal loans
Hypothetical question: Say I want to purchase a car (new or used, doesn't matter for the question) at a value of £25k, which has a GMFV of £10k after 3 years. A PCP deal would give me 9%APR over the term, whereas a personal loan can give me 2.5%APR over the same term. I have no cash funds of my own to serve as a deposit.…

Mot retest same garage?
My car failed the mot today, garage quoted repairs and said it would be free test if I retest in 2 weeks. I found another garage who would do repair cheaper. Once repaired, can I still take it back for free to the original place or would I have to pay for the partial retest since repairs done elsewhere? Thanks

V5 registered keeper and insurance issue
Hi, I'm hoping someone can shed some light for me? I bought a new car last week for my boyfriend to use. I am the registered keeper, and it's registered to my address. My boyfriend was using his 3rd party insurance for driving the new car (he kept his insurance going from his old car whilst it's at his parents in France)…

How long after giving back courtesy car can they charge for damage
Hi all, I've got some hire car worries, hoping someone could help. My BMW was re-called, they took the car off the road to fix it and as the parts weren't avaialble. This took a month, and for this month they put me in a Enterprise hire car, they paid the bill (although I had to pay £50 to have the car released to me). When…

Garage warenty work, who pays ???
Just had some work done on my car and while waiting to collect was reading the garages T & C's, and was surprised to see that if you make a warranty claim on a part they fit and supply, you are responsible for their labour costs to remove alledged faulty part for inspection and fitment of the replacement part. Surely if…

Smart motorway cameras
I am just curious how this works... Lets assume I am going 70mph and as I get close to one of the signs it changes to say 60mph or even 50mph (assuming they can drop by more than 10mph in one go), how long after the change do you get before the camera would take account of it - if that makes sense? I am just thinking to…

Halfords roof bar foot pack
Halfords roof bars Hi, TLDR version; can I make a case for returning a roof bar fittings (called a foot pack) to Halfords because they are a very poor fit (and may even damage the car) even though I've used them (see below for more details). Longer version: I recently changed car and had used halfords own roof bars on my…

What do I need to do to get it back on the road?
I bought a 06 Ford Focus 1.6 Petrol 2 years ago and then never drove it as I ended up with another vehicle. The battery ran out at some point and I just never got round to doing anything with it. For some reason I convinced myself that I would sort it out but never did, so its just been sat on my drive with no cover and no…

Vehicle tax refund
Just wonder if anyone has had any issues with the DVLA over refunds on vehicle tax? DH bought a car from a guy who sold cars from his home in October last year. The car needed a little work so we applied online to SORN the vehicle off the road. DVLA wrote and told us we were not the registered keeper so could not make the…

Don't go to a Council-run MOT centre if there's any chance of failing at all.
Just learned this the hard way. 6 months ago I noticed I had a dead headlight and tried to replace it myself. Had previously paid Halfrauds £22 only to watch the chap effortlessly take a rubber seal off the back of the headlight housing, take out the bulb and put the new one in. Tried the magic trick myself and just spent…
