I know i should probably leave it at the point it's currently at but this kind of thing really Ps me off especially having had it happen to me in the past too & when you get back to your car not knowing how this fresh bit of damage has happened or who's done it :mad:
Tonight i saw a car in a car park hit another car and scrape all down his rear 1/4 before not even stopping to look (you could hear it and i'm sure he must've felt it as well as heard it) and just drove off. I noted his plate.
Story short i was able to find the owner who appeared to be an old boy of about 70 years old at a guess +/-. I gave him the vehicle details as well as mine.
Whether he takes it up with insurance or decides he just doesn't want the hassle i don't know.
Would you report this to the police as leaving the scene or would you just leave it as it currently stands & am i just letting anger get the better of me? I know it's not my car that's ended up damaged but it just Ps me right off how people think they can do something like that and just get away with it letting other people foot the bill
Oh and i checked - it's taxed, insured & MOTd

When I saw a similar incident I left the reg. number and my contact details with the owner of the bashed car and let them decide. The police did eventually get in touch for a statement because the driver was denying all knowledge. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

I was very grateful that someone took details of a hit & run on my car so you did the right thing, but from there, I'd leave it to the owner from there, personally0

One of the guys at my firm witnessed someone hit another car and leave (in a street, not a car park) so wrote down the registration of the offending vehicle on one of his business cards (that had our firms details) and left it on the damaged vehicle.
Few hours later someone called, receptionist tried to tell them what had happened and they started arguing with her & yelling down the phone at her about how "it doesn't take a genius to work out that your employee hit my car and didn't stop so someone left his details".
They weren't prepared to listen to our poor receptionist until she asked them how the witness would know he worked for us and more to the point, how they managed to conveniently get one of our business cards to leave his details. You keep using that word. several years ago I saw similar and reported it to the police, in this instance after the accident the driver and passenger swapped places and drove off.
Police came to my house and took a witness statement (I did feel a bit uneasy) driver was convicted of driving with no insurance and failing to report an accident.
Although I felt on edge about it, it was the right thing to do and I would hope someone would do the same for me.0 -
I watched a man in his 70's come down the wrong way in a Tesco car park one way lane to try and get to a disabled bay . Another car started coming up the same lane the correct way so he tried (and failed) to move over and pass it , scrapeing so hard along the back of a convertible that both cars were juddering. I stood there taking pictures all the time of the collision and his reg plate while other people were shouting at him to stop. He then shot off and parked elsewhere.
I stood by the car he'd hit and waited until the woman came back and told her what happened and pointed out who'd hit her. We walk over and confront him , he swears blind it was not him until I show him photos and tell him I'm just about to go into Tesco's with her to get CCTV footage and point up at the cameras. He then sheepishly swaps details and I hand the woman my contact details in while he's watching.
Never heard from her so I assume he admitted liabilityEx forum ambassador

Is there one way lanes in a car park
I had someone hit me in a car park while i was parked and sitting in the car.
I got out, exchanged details, took pics of both cars in situ with him standing next to his car.
he then denied he was even there, until i showed the pics that he knew I had....crazy0 -

Absolutely, I would offer myself as a witness every time.
Slightly different circumstances but years ago, an elderly lady was crossing the road in front of me with her husband so I slowed down but as she got to the kerb, she slipped and fell backwards hitting my front wing with her head.
She was ok but the husband started ranting about me hitting his wife etc. but 2 other drivers had witnessed it and stopped to give a statement should it be needed which was good seeing as it happened right outside a police station.0 -

On quite a lot of them, yes. They have no real legal status, but help to apportion liability if someone is going "the wrong way" and has an accident, as they really ought to take treble extra care when doing something that most people don't expect- they should realise that people are not going to look the "wrong way" and expect pedestrians to step out, cars to suddenly back out etc.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
