Mot retest same garage?

My car failed the mot today, garage quoted repairs and said it would be free test if I retest in 2 weeks.
I found another garage who would do repair cheaper.
Once repaired, can I still take it back for free to the original place or would I have to pay for the partial retest since repairs done elsewhere?
Thanks

No, you can take it back to the testing station.

    Depends on the garage's goodwill.

For some fails, they have to offer a partial retest fee within 10 days - providing the vehicle's not left their premises.

For a shortish list of fails, they have to offer a free retest that day or the next.

Apart from that, they're within their rights to charge however much they feel like, so long as it's not over the max test fee. They have to do a full retest, outside of those circumstances, so they probably will charge.

Left where it is = partial retest within 10 working days (effectively 2 weeks because they don't count Sat or Sun even if the garage opens on them) and no fee

Taken away and returned for retest by the end of the next day on ceratin items = partial retest and no fee.

Taken away and returned for retest within 10 working days for any other item = partial retest and partial fee (maximum of half the standard fee)

Any other case, full test and full fee.

Note that the "standard fee" as far as retests go is the maximum permitted test fee, not "what the garage charge as standard". So, if they do half price MOT tests normally, they can charge you the same again for the partial retest because it's still half the standard fee.

Those are the maximums but, as with the initial fee, the garage is free to charge less (or not at all) if they want.

I have this same issue. If its free re-test, that is what they said.

I will be getting some work done at a garage, and I am hoping they will write a MOT for a reduced price, as the work as already been done. I dont want the hassle to book it in at the original garage and wait 30 minutes, when the garage doing the work can just write out a certificate, for £20/30

The other garage would have to do a full test.

I've never known a garage that actually charge the retest fee though
