Halfords roof bars

Hi,

TLDR version; can I make a case for returning a roof bar fittings (called a foot pack) to Halfords because they are a very poor fit (and may even damage the car) even though I've used them (see below for more details).

Longer version:
I recently changed car and had used halfords own roof bars on my previous car for several years with no problems at all. My new car has roof rails so I could reuse the roof bars I already had, and simply needed to get new fittings (called a foot pack) for attaching the bars to the rails (my previous car didn't have roof rails and so had a different footpack)

After using their online checker which told me what foot pack to buy I purchased a set and attached them to the roof bars, but when coming to fit them onto the car it was extremely difficult to fit due to the foot pack itself.

Now I fitted them to the car the night before we were going on holiday and simply didn't have enough time to return them to Halfords or source another better fitting set, and because we had to make use of a roof box I had to leave them on and use them. When we returned from holiday it was even more difficult to remove them and was worried about actually damaging the roof rails.

So, can I make a case for getting a refund on the foot pack because they are so poorly fitting even though I've used them once?

TLDR version: you would like to hire a roof bar pack for your holiday at no cost.

Longer version: They fitted and served their purpose, so you might have trouble convincing Halfords that they are not fit for purpose. They may grant a refund but if you're honest with them, they may also make a deduction because you've used them.

Uh, no I intend to purchase them (the footpack) as I will use them over and over again along with the roof bars (which I'm not looking to return). Rather odd that you would accuse me of dishonesty seeing that you didn't even read the post properly

I did read the post properly. You said you wanted a refund, not that you intend to purchase them.

If you explain to Halfords that you're happy to exchange them for a different spec set, they may be amenable to an exchange. You'll have a hard job convincing them they are faulty because you proved yourself that they aren't.

I wont have a hard job convincing them, i'll get them to try and fit them without damaging my car.

I'll guarantee they wont even try

Have you got the correct footpack for the roofrails you have?

ie footpack for flush roofrails when you have standard roofrails or vice versa.

You can ask. They might be a compromised design made for various similar rails hence the poor fit.

Read the reviews on Halfords site of the product you bought. There may be similar complaints.
