One-car household
Have any cohabiting partners made the transition to a one-car household successfully? We both work full-time and a number of our trips (into and out of the city centre) are duplicated. My partner's car insurance is coming up for renewal and it is likely also that she'll need to put some money behind getting it ready for…

Used car purchase from an authorised dealer
Dear members I have purchased a three year old used car from a Nissan dealer about a month ago. Everything was fine and car runs well. It has a one year warranty etc. Sadly I noticed today that windscreen does not have Nissan markings on it which means it was replaced at some point. I was not informed about this. I did ask…

MOT Failure - Coil Springs
Hello to everyone. Thats my first post here. I'm living in UK from 2 years and I've got my own car since July 2014 (Peugeot 207 1.6HDi GT 110 - 57 Plate). Today was my first MOT ever. I decided to do that one with the main dealer - in that case Arbury Peugeot in Leamington Spa. I've booked the MOT online for today (Monday…

EGR valve !!!
For a week now I had the engine management light on the dashboard of my diesel Toyota. The car has become very slow in first gear although normal after that. I took it to a garage I trust and they connected it to computer and the result was EGR valve fault. Cost to replace is over £400 (£320 for the part alone) ...today…

Question about tyres
Having checked the tyre tread on the front and back tyres I noticed the front tyres are different to those at the back, the fronts are 175/65 r14 82t and the rear are 175 65 r14 82H. I need to replace the 2 front ones so do I go like for like ? and does it matter if the rear ones are different ?

Car leasing, worth it?
Hi all, I just wanted to get your input on whether you think car leasing is worth it? My Dad has just recently purchased a Mercedes C200 2010 (60) plate, and I'm hoping to get my license soon, we change cars every 2 years or so, I usually get pretty decent deals when selling. The car we've just bought was around £10k.…

Low mileage rates paid by my employer
I'm a vet and regularly use my own car to go on visits to client's houses and to drive between branches. Until now, I've always been paid at 40p per mile, which although below the HMRC advised figure of 45p per mile at least covered my costs. However, without any discussion, they have now started splitting the mileage…

Unable to park
The town I live in relies heavily on parking permits. If you live in certain zones you can purchase a permit to park in that zone. Nothing unusual there. The development I live in is brand new as is the road that leads up to the development that is part owned and managed by the development managers, the remainder is…

Wheel bearings - can they 'go' in three weeks?
So I'll cut to the chase, on Friday I had my rear passenger side wheel bearing replaced. It was 'ruined' as I was informed. No big. It wasn't expensive and that's just the way it is with cars. However, three weeks ago, right before Christmas, I got another garage (aka Halfords) to do a 15 point check on my car. This…

Could you do me a favour please?
Please could you go and look at how rubbish your vehicle's side lights are and bear this in mind next time you think "I only need to put my side lights on" And while you're at it check that all your lights are functioning correctly. Thanks

Licence category shows B
Hi I passed my test last year. It shows category B but not B1. I think I've read they've stopped doing B1 or if I have B it covers B1 as well? Anyone know? (DVLA phone line has been blocked for over an hour!)

2014 new-gen Hyundai i10 slow to start
Hi all, I have a 2014 new-gen Hyundai 1.0 i10, 6 months old, 5k miles, which I love. In the past couple of weeks I’ve noticed an occasional problem with the car being slow to start up first thing in the morning – I think the term is slow to crank. 9 times out of 10 it will start perfectly, but perhaps 10% of the time to…

Illegal number plate - who can fix this?
Dear all, happy new year! I bought a new car last week, which had a valid MOT. I was pulled over by the police last night who said that the licence plate had illegal spacing and that I should get it sorted to avoid being stopped again and fined. Naturally, I said it was a new car with a valid MOT, but the police said that…

I need to stop being a paranoid driver
I passed my driving test in August 2014. I drive about 60 miles a day and I'm constantly paranoid of everything! - The car behind me being an unmarked police car - running a red light (even though I know the light was green) - being flashed by a speed camera (even though I'm doing the speed limit) I know that if I'm…
