Used car purchase from an authorised dealer

Dear members

I have purchased a three year old used car from a Nissan dealer about a month ago. Everything was fine and car runs well. It has a one year warranty etc. Sadly I noticed today that windscreen does not have Nissan markings on it which means it was replaced at some point. I was not informed about this. I did ask the dealer if it was involved in any accidents etc. and I was told that all their cars are HPI cleared and also given me a HPI certificate which I also checked today and spotted a mileage difference e.g. I purchased the car when it had 20,000 miles on the clock but the certificate was issued at 18,000 and is couple of months old. I am not sure why there can be a difference of couple of thousand miles.

To be honest I am slightly gutted as I went to the dealer and paid little bit extra that I will have peace of mind but now I will keep wondering whether the car was involved in any accident. Do I need to worried

  • No. I've had loads of new windscreens fitted over the years due to stonechips etc.

Dealer probably used the car whilst in stock, or entered approximate mileage when HPI'ing the car.

Drive it and enjoy it, stop worrying about it.

Check the thread about brand new cars being repaired before sold.

Probably more than you think. But only a small number compared to the amount sold.

A new windscreen is nothing to worry about.

    Thanks guys

So in your view I can trust the Nissan dealership?

I found this issue with the windscreen over the weekend and I spent a lot of time finding other cars similar to my model in various parking to see how their windscreen look like and my findings are as shown in the pictures below

Original look something like this with NISSAN instead of SEAT written on it

Mine looks exactly like below where NISSAN is blacked out

I haven't bothered to look at the pictures you've posted.

    STOP WORRYING ABOUT NOTHING.

Windscreens get replaced all the time. One of my colleagues had the screen replaced on his Mondeo just before Christmas in the car park at work. It happens. Just drive the bloody car and stop panicking about nothing.

If there WAS something wrong, and it resulted in a problem for you, the fact that you purchased WITH a clear HPI, from a franchised Nissan dealer will offer you some protection as Nissan will not want their name associated with fraudulent practice.

I bet you looked well shifty doing that.

It's only a windscreen, they haven't swapped the engine, don't worry about it and be happy it has no chips yet. I'd rather buy a car with new glass than slight stone chips.

From your worrying, I'm sensing some buyers remorse and you're just picking faults to return it.

Thanks guys for telling me off!

No I am quite happy with the car and has no intention to return it. But it is the most expensive thing I have bought so far and I was hit by lemon on my last purchase hence the concern. I was conned by a private seller on my previous purchase.

As much as you can trust any main dealer. ;)

I can only think of two reasons why a new windscreen would be a cause for concern: 1, it isn't fitted properly and leaks and 2, it is a heated screen and the heating element hasn't been connected properly or is damaged.

(I had a new screen fitted to the Mondeo one spring and didn't find out that a couple of the elements were missing until the cold weather came 9 months later, way too late to do anything about it.)

If it checks out with those two things, don't worry. People get new screens all the time and, as Oddballjamie says, better a car with a new screen than one with stone chips.

Agree, worry about nothing. Quite normal for many people but don't let it detract from enjoying your car.

    Fixed that for you.

If you liken car dealers to the horse thieves of old and trust them accordingly you won't go far wrong :)
