Car Failed MOT - SORN?
My wife's car failed its MOT yesterday. It's an old car and the work needing to be done is upwards of £1,000 so we're not getting it repaired. The tax is due up today. I was just logging on online to declare it SORNed. However I can't proceed with the application because it doesn't have a valid MOT certificate! What…

Difference between a manufactures warranty and a dealers warranty on a new car
I have noticed that many new cars have a 3 year warranty that starts off as a manufacturers warranty but ends as a dealers warranty. What are the implications of a dealers warranty and why are cars sometimes sold this way?

Urgent help please - SORN attempt giving date a month ago?
Trying to SORN my car today 31st so I can get a refund for the whole month of February. But on filling in the details online it says "SORN start date..." 1st of January, not February, there seems to be no way to change it. If I leave it until tomorrow, which is February, it seems I'll lose the refund. Ideas please!

Car leasing with very low miles per year
Does anyone know of any places where you can lease or hire a prestige car for a year/2 years but with very limited mileage? I only do around 2,000 miles a year, but when I do them I would like to do it in a nice car. Are there such schemes/places that do this anywhere please? Thanks in advance

Car Insurance No Claims Query
I had an car accident almost 2 years ago, ended up damaging a Golf Course hedge, no other cars were involved. Told my insurers who contacted the Golf Course. I asked what would happen if the Golf Course did not get back to them and the Insurers said that after 2 years the claim would be cancelled. I scrapped my car as it…

Engine management light
Hi, The engine light on my peugeot 206 has been on pretty much constantly for the past 3 months. I've not had it checked out before now because of a lack of funds and the car didn't have any other problems (I've heard of people experiencing a juddering and loss of power when the light comes on - but I've had none of that).…

When will we see second hand electic vans?
Electric vans are relatively recent and too expensive for me. I am attracted to the idea that there's no road tax to pay and mot (but: is it still so?). I am monitoring the market for a second hand electric van, but all I find is these mickey-mouse vans like the megavan:…

Vauxhall Astra (2009) beeping and speedo bouncing
Bit of a strange one, I've got an 09 Vauxhall Astra 1.4 and occasionally when I start the car, there is a beeping noise and at the same time as the beep, the speedo will shoot away up (the revs stay as normal). What might be causing this? Not sure if it's related, but I couldn't get my left indicator turned off the other…

Can't afford car repairs but value too high to be scrapped - any ideas?
I have a Zafira Elegance 03 , 2.0 DTi with 96000 miles on the clock. These cars are worth between £1500-£2000 in the current market & the car is in good cosmetic condition with added tinted windows. Unfortunately the car is now a non runner (needs a lot of work doing to it - new chassis/subframe, 2 new tyres & a ball joint…

Car insurance - named drivers driving to work
Just renewing with Saga. Noticed that "The vehicle cannot be used to travel to and from work, other than by you and your spouse/domestic partner". It is the first time I have noticed this although maybe it has been there before and I missed it. Is it a common restriction? I always assumed that a named driver (say) the…

Reducing your car insurance after a fault accident
Hi, I had a fault claim on my car insurance last year. Basically I hit another car from behind. The total cost was £6193 including what was probably spurious injury claim from the driver of the car I hit. Anyway, my insurance went up to £430, from what was about £280 the year before. I used a comparison site to find…

PCP Question
Hi, I follow the concept of a PCP deal for a car but would like to know if you can ascertain the cost of the deal and then pay with your own cash or a trade in vehicle? I'm trying to work out if it is possible to pay a PCP up front without having to take any finance package at all from the garage. TIA

Money back from council for unfair previous PCN tickets
Free money back for miss handled PCN's; why is no one responding to this thread??? Back in September 2014 there was a lot of focus on councils being found to have used the same firms that were handling PCN tickets handle the appeals process (an obvious conflict of interest!): 'Ticket disputes should have been handled by…

cheap but reliable car?
Hi, I am after getting a car. However, I don't work at the moment so money is tight, but once I have the car, I'll be able to become self employed :) I need a car that is reliable, cheap on insurance, cheap on petrol etc. Any ideas please? It would be for mostly driving about town but also the occasional motorway journeys.
