Buying advice ?
We are looking to buy a 62 plate Fiesta this weekend and wondered if anyone in the know could tell us if it would be better to wait until after 1st September when people may have traded in this type of car for a new one , or will it not really make much difference to the price. Do dealers reduce second hand cars…

Economical car with high seat positinon
Looking for a car, budget around £6,000 give or take which is economical to run (so no big 4x4) but has a high driving position. Have looked at the Dacia Duster, but have read that it has rust problems. Ideally petrol as there seem to be rumblings around diesels and have had problems with dpf in my current ford focus. Need…

Who has priority at this junction?
As in the title: https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en Should a mini-roundabout not be more appropriate? With the proper location!: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.441931,-0.143732,3a,75y,100.65h,90t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sujbO6Saq4qSpzoLLdm2opw!2e0

Van parked blocking my car in
My car is in my back yard and a van has parked outside my entrance blocking it in. The van has been there since around 11am this morning and I have never seen it before. I will be wanting to use my car in a couple of hours time, if it still hasn't moved, what are my options? Will police do anything if I call them?

SORN concern
Hi. I need to SORN my car for a couple of days before it gets scrapped but when trying to it online it backdates the SORN to 1st August but I've been driving the car until 22nd August and want to SORN it from 25th. Would it be ok just to use the 1st Aug ( you have no option to change the date online)? My concern is that I…

Damage to A-pillar - will it fail MOT?
Yesterday my fiance lost control of his car and went into a ditch... Luckily he is fine and there was nobody else involved, but the car is a bit worse for wear! It almost certainly would be an insurance write-off, but as it is his first year of driving we would really rather just pay for it ourselves and leave insurance…

what happened to my clio ?
Was travelling back home in my clio 1.5dci 80. All of a sudden i heard big knocking noise which would increase with rpm and lost power to half. Since I was only few miles from destination decided to continue(big mistake!!) instead of stopping and calling breakdown. I did reach home but now it wont start (engine just turns…

Is bank transfer a safe way of selling my car?
Hello, I am selling a car, the buyer wants to do an instant bank transfer and has said he banks with Natwest. I bank with Halifax but have received instant funds from Natwest in the past from friends so I know it is a quick transfer process. Is there any way that once the funds are in my account this can be reversed? I'm…

M42 --> M5 South (J4A)
Having recently driven along this junction I'm shocked about how misleading the lane markings are (Google Maps). The central reserve barrier is currently being replaced (until Oct 2014) and the hard shoulder has been turned into lane 1 to create three narrow lanes within a 50mph limit. This means that the old chevron and…

Is a Toyota Yaris a good runaround?
Hi everyone I'm looking for advice on a car to do a bit of A - B driving. It's just for things like taking my mum out and about (her arthritis is getting worse so getting hard for her to go shopping etc). I won't be using it for work and hoping to spend £1000 - £2000 as it's all I've got lol. The only other car I owned was…

Should I report an incident (no damage) to my insurer?
Hello MoneySavers, Yesterday while driving to work at a busy junction I had a brain fart and did not break hard enough. Result was I bumped the car in front. Car was very slow (in 1st or 2nd gear) and I was squeezing the brake but did not stop completely in time. I was very scared never been in this situation before and…

Speeding offence
My father has been clocked speeding by a mobile mounted camera on a stretch of road..51mph in a 30mph area. His license currently has 9points / 3 offences ( 1x SP30 + 2x TS10 ). Not a good example to begin with! Although, he has been driving for over 50yrs without causing any harm to another road user. All His 9points were…

Hiring a car without a credit card

Breakdown insurance...
As usual, rip off renewal quote. No credit for loyalty from the RAC but a good deal for the AA recommended by MSE (wife insists on staying with the big two). 15 months for the price of 12 and £63 back though Topcashback (never used before, so hope it happens). This brings it to below £100 for breakdown, home start and…

Temp Car Insurance over £40 help!!!!
Hi My car insurance for an Audi TT ended this week and I'm in the process of trying to buy a new car. Not wanting to take a full years insurance obviously I thought I'd got for temporary insurance. I did this a few years ago and it cost about £60 for a month for a Clio. However I'm getting back quotes of £360-£400 for just…

Changing car
I changed job last month and I love it. Downside - spending £400 in a month on fuel because my commute has gone from 2.5 miles each way to 37 miles each way and my car is just not economical. It's an MK4 Fiesta, about to hit 70000 miles this weekend. In really good nick, just had about £800 spent on it getting it fit for…

Number plate with red border
Some rear number plates have a red border or line round them. Does it have any significance? Some years ago I got the idea that the red border was for number plates temporarily supplied for a foreign car in the UK, but there seem to be quite a lot of them. I can’t find anything on the web about this. Not important, just…

Kwik Fit Free Brake Check Any Good?
Are there any catches with the free brake check offered by Kwik Fit? There is a dispute about the brakes on a car that I purchased recently, which just had a fresh MOT and a Service. I will probably need a report if the matter is to be referred to Trading Standards and Vosa.
