SORN concern

Hi. I need to SORN my car for a couple of days before it gets scrapped but when trying to it online it backdates the SORN to 1st August but I've been driving the car until 22nd August and want to SORN it from 25th.

Would it be ok just to use the 1st Aug ( you have no option to change the date online)? My concern is that I need it to be done for Monday, which is a bank holiday. Really stressing me out. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Will I get in trouble if I've sorn-ed it from the 1st when I've been using it? It is taxed and insured until tomorrow (Monday 25th). It runs out of mot and insurance tomorrow but tax is valid until March.

Super confusing situation. No clear information about this situation anywhere :(

Please help!!!

Where is it now, parked on public road or on private premises?
What are the scrapping arrangements, are you driving it to a dismantler/salvage yard, or is it being collected on a truck?
You almost certainly don't need to SORN it, just get the scrapper to complete the relevant part of the V5 and give you a receipt, then send the tax disc in for a refund, recorded delivery and post before end of the month.
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

Just post the tax disc back for a refund before the end of the month, with the SORN box on the V14 ticked, and you'll be fine.

Yeah it's in a garage. Not got a date for scrap yet but it will be this week. It will be collected and not driven anywhere

Surely I need to have it taxed AND insured to not SORN?

So best option is to sorn online, and send back tax disc ASAP?

Ahh car laws are so confusing.

Just send the V14 back with the SORN box ticked, once the insurance expires. Don't overthink it.

It's taxed until month end. If it's in a private garage, you're hardly going to be pulled over for no MOT.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
