what happened to my clio ?

Was travelling back home in my clio 1.5dci 80. All of a sudden i heard big knocking noise which would increase with rpm and lost power to half. Since I was only few miles from destination decided to continue(big mistake!!) instead of stopping and calling breakdown. I did reach home but now it wont start (engine just turns on ignition).

The car had new oil, filters, EGR clean recently. Since last few months had some starting problem; engine turned for 1-2 sec before starting every time, ran okay once started tho.

Has anyone faced similar issue or know what could be going on? Worried I might have to look for another car :(

Will check the oil tomorrow, but it was recently filled by one of the national garage chain. Although they are not always reliable, didn't had any oil empty lights ON either.

By the way i had the coil shape light ON for a minute or so when I was driving home.

Common problem, your best bet is an owners forum, maybe do some Google searching.

Recently filled and you have not checked it? They may have put too little or too much in there.

Always check fluids after a service. Not unknown for them to forget to put oil back in.

Dunno about a new car, but you may need a new engine if you drove on any distance.
But if you have breakdown cover, why don't you get them to come out and assess it, since it won't start?

"Oil empty light"? You mean the "You have no oil pressure and are currently killing your engine" light?

Does/did the oil pressure light illuminate with the ignition on? If not, then it's either failed or been disconnected to conceal low oil pressure.

Had a breakdown guy come over. Oil is okay, the engine turns on ignition and feels as if its about to start but doesn't and spews lot of black smoke. The fuel is reaching all 4 injectors but could be a valve issue.

Not sure how much its going to cost me. Especially when the car is worth less than £900.

If the ECU doesn't have any stored codes (Is engine management light staying on as you try and start it?) then next step would be compression test think (wet and dry)

Is it turbocharged? If so have any pipes blown off however I would say if its not turbocharged it doesn't sound very promising may of even had a injector let go and now embedded in piston
