MOt - Advisory - exhaust

Not enough info to advise on prices etc. Take it into a local exhaust centre for a quote and advice.0

I would suggest taking it to a small local garage rather than an exaust centre.
If you pop into somewhere such as Kwikfit, you can almost guarantee that they will try to sell you either a new exhaust section or possibly a complete system even if it's not really required.0 -
Advisories are just that. The mot tester has to make judgement as to whether your car will still be road worthy in a year's time. They've noticed an exhaust leak but it's not bad enough to fail or effect your emissions but may get worse over time.
You could stick some gun gum putty around the leaking area yourself or get a garage to weld it. My 11 year old run around is more weld than exhaust now but still gets through its mot each year lol.0 -
Is the leak because its corroded or just a bad seal?
Its something you should sort wooner rather than later. Exhaust gas is not good for your lungs.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

The MOT test is only concerned about the condition of the testable items at the time of test. A MOT pass does not mean that car is roadworthy at the time of test, let alone that it will be roadworthy in 12 months time.0 -

Of course it does, an MOT test is to make sure your car meets the road safety and environmental standards as set by the government/EU0 -
Best case is it's a joint that can be resealed.
Worst case is the pipe is so corroded it shears off and drops onto the road at speed.0 -

Which is different to having a roadworthy car. Examples of things that will be acceptable at MOT which are not good:
Additionally tinted front side windows will get you a prohibition on a roadside check.
Missing propellor shaft bolts on a rear wheel drive car , an accident waiting to happen, only adviseable on the MOT.
Nails in tyres.
Oil leaks - especially not good to two wheeled road users.
I expect that there are more examples of items which would be considered undesireable on a car which are acceptable to the MOT test.0
