Small mortgages
OH and I are looking to move in the next year or so and are lucky to have cash / investments to cover 80% of the house price. Will it cause any problems getting a mortgage of approx. 20% of the house value ? (I seem to recall reading somewhere it can be hard to get a mortgage for under 25% but I might have dreamt it !)…

Found a better mortgage than broker...
I visited a broker earlier in the week. He was clear to point out he was all of market and was only paid from proc fees from the lenders, so no cost to me. We went through affordability and he has given me two options - a 2yr and a 5yr fix. I thought I'd have a look around online, plugging in the same numbers as I gave the…

Protection
I'm interested to know peoples opinion of protection and how it is sold and how people buy it. There are many on here who are in the business and will be able to talk protection to the cows come home and advise the reasons why you should have it and why it is important. But I am interested to know from the buyers…

Proof of mortgage deposit
Hello, I am going through the process of getting my mortgage and need to send the brokers proof of my deposit. I have a 50k deposit, but part of that is made up of my Help to Buy ISA bonus which is not shown on my Help to Buy ISA statement. Will the brokers know to add on the bonus which will then make my deposit add up to…

Can you tell me what are the obstacles and how a joint buy to let mortgage would work if it was purchased with a deposit between 2-3 people (eg me, my father and uncle, OR me and my uncle)? My uncle is an ex British citizen but now living in Canada. My dad is in uk with me, we both have our own places (I'm a first time…

Me and my husband live with his parents in a house which has been divided into two living spaces. We bought the house together – each couple selling their own house and putting the equity toward the new one, together with a mortgage. Here is where it gets complicated. When we needed a mortgage the only persons with a…

Paid off mortgage BUT
I paid off my mortgage thirteen years ago and the mortgage company (Portman) sent me the deeds. No letter with it, just out of the blue, so I simply put them in a safe place (filing cabinet in the spare bedroom). Time flies and I've now been told by my solicitor that there is still a charge showing on the land registry -…

Random question
Ok, this could be totally illegal but I thought I'd ask as I can't seem to find anything about it on-line. Basically my credit history could be better, OH is pretty decent. Want to move to a bigger place, OH has a mortgage already but due to my credit past, it wouldn't be doable within the next 2 years. After speaking to…

Borrowing more: Help-to-Buy (Equity)
In February 2014 my wife & I bought a new house using the Help-to-Buy shared equity scheme, we took out a 75% mortgage, with 5% deposit and 20% Help-to-Buy. By extension, February 2019 is when the "interest-free" period ends, and we'll start getting charged a monthly interest fee. We have no intention of moving any time…

Parents financial responsibility
Can anyone tell me at what age a child needs to be for the parent to have no financial responsibility for their actions. We are in Scotland and my son is taking out a mortgage and I don't want to be lumped with it if he defaults. Thanks for any advice.
