Solicitors Fees
Hi, Simple question i think. Are Solicitors fees paid before or after completion? Do they take their fee from the deposit money? I.E do you have to transfer enough for the deposit plus their fees to their account at exchange? Can they be paid by credit card? (only useful if after completion). Thanks

Mortgage on a flat over 4 stories
I've had an offer accepted on a flat in a building that is over 4 stories high. I've been trying to get a mortgage offer through a broker who has told me that it's difficult to find good prices because many lenders will not give a mortgage on a 'high-rise' property. Has anybody else had a problem with this, and does…

Mortgage Age Discrimination
Is it "Age Discrimination" for a lender to stipulate a mortgage has to stop at say 70? If the borrower's income is the same after 70, why should that be a problem? Interestingly the Co-op have not replied to a letter asking them to justify their policy! Chris

Equity Release lifetime mortgage confusion
My mother took out a Lifetime Mortgage Equity Release plan through Aviva when she was 56, she is now 63. She 'released' £40,000 and her home is now worth about £270,000. At the time I wasn't on good terms with her so my brother helped her out with all this. I am still not able to talk to her about this but she does mention…

problems getting a decent Mortgage with LTV 25%
I seem to be in a unique situation that brokers don't really seem interested in sorting me out a mortgage. I want to borrow £45,000, £31,000 for the mortgage and £14,000 for renovations the house is worth around £180,000 now. Because of the small loan it is cheaper for me to go for a slightly higher rate with no £995 set…

Best way to search online for Mortgage deals
Hi, Does anyone know of the best place on the internet to search for mortgages by loan-to-value? All of the ones I can find just do it by tracker/fixed/discount and therefore all have the 60% LTV ones at the top, and it is really hard to cross compare ones which have fees against ones that don't, and ones that revert to…

Is there a point beyond which your house will not be repossessed?
My property is 210'000. I have 11000 left to pay. As I'm currently unemployed there may come a time when savings are exhausted and I can't pay my mortgage (unlikely but looking at a worse case scenario). So would I be repossessed for such a small amount?

Should we overpay monthly or lump sum?
Hi We have 11 years left on our repayment mortgage (fixed at 4.89% until April 2011) with an outstanding balance of about £52,000. DH is hoping to retire (early) in 2014 and use some of his lump sum to pay off the outstanding balance on the morgage. The question is... do we overpay monthly from now, or save up that monthly…
