Need to remortgage to off load some of my credit card debit into the equity of my house as min payments are never gonna pay it off. Thought a mortgage broker could do some of the leg work for me. Question is can anyone recommend a good one that they have used. Thanks.

Can I suggest you state what area you are in, as it will be no use someone recommending a good one in Cornwall, if you are in Aberdeen!I am a mortgage adviser. You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. This signature is here as I follow MSE's Mortgage Adviser Code of Conduct. Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as financial advice.0

So you can't afford more than minimum payments on your credit cards but you think you could afford an increased mortgage payment each month????
Plus the early redemption fees for closing existing mortgage and the fees for having the new one set up.
I suggest you look at what your income and outgoings are, see where you can cut back and start overpaying on credit card that is costing you the most. Go to DFW and use all the tools there.0 -
No I can pay not in the position where I can't. But if I have say 20k credit card debit and 100k equity in my home. I can move the 20k into my mortgage reducing the amount I pay each month on the credit cards and actually pay them off. I get the 20k for 6% or whatever rather than the 20% or whatever I am paying. I know over the longer term I will be paying more, but just a short term fix. Goal is to have a offset mortgage, but if I am tied paying credit cards I can't do that. Thanks for your concern. Really after recommendation.
Forgot to add not tied in to any mortgage so no charges except set up.0 -
Move to a cheaper property and sort your finances out properly.
Consolidating debt doesn't solve any problems, and doesn't teach one a lesson, its the easy way out.
May sound harsh but its true.0 -
Thanks again.
If anyone can actually recommend a mortgage broker please do so. If I was after advice on what I should do I will put that in the title. Not being rude. Just after a recommendation. I could sit here all day on the forums and tell people what they should and should not do.
Recommendations please. Many thanks.0 -
Have you tried northwarwickshirenorthwestofbirminghammortgagebrokers.com ?0

I think some of these replies are being very harsh. What the OP is suggesting is a sensible re-working of their finances that would probably be recommended by MSE. To suggest overpaying is OK, but overpaying when the debt is 6% is still more sensible than suggesting overpaying while leaving it at 20%. And suggesting to move house with all the upheaval and expense that would entail, just to clear a credit card debt, isn't the most helpful suggestion.
I don't know any mortgage brokers to recommend I'm afraid. I'm in a position where I need one, and I guess I was just going to walk into Connell's Estate Agents and see if they broker even if you don't buy through them, and whether or not they charge a fee.
But please follow the advice about re-assessing your finances and not repeating the mistake of amassing a huge credit card next time if you do get this sorted!0 -
I thought they were harsh too. Thanks for support. I have found a broker in my area. I will not be repeating my mistake, just trying to save some money on a monthly basis and getting a cheap loan (remortage at lower % than cards) in the short term to pay the credit card debit off. Hopefully (the plan) in a few years time I will change mortgage product to offset mortgage and pay the mortgage and credit card debit of quicker than it is currently taking. Thanks again VT82.0
