Solicitors Fees

Hi,
Simple question i think.
Are Solicitors fees paid before or after completion?
Do they take their fee from the deposit money? I.E do you have to transfer enough for the deposit plus their fees to their account at exchange?
Can they be paid by credit card? (only useful if after completion).
Thanks

Their fees get paid when all the monies go through. i.e if you are buying your solicitor will ask you for the funds to complete which includes everything. If you are selling then hopefully the money from the house cover these expenses and again there is a statement detailing the solicitors fees, estate agents fees etc.
hope this helps.
Definitely not after completion - your solicitors effectivly deal with all the funds on the day of completion.Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck
Phase 1 - Emergency Fund - Complete :j
Phase 2 - £20,000 Mortgage Fund - Underway0 -

Its been a while since I have used a solicitor but I doubt they accept credit cards. They never used to.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
I've just had an email from my mum's solicitor stating that at some point he needs to send mum a bill for all advice given - that it wasn't done before because she had enough to contend with, with the house sale.
I thought all the fees would be on the completion statement??? There are some solicitor fees on there, itemised, some say professional services...etc...
It feels like a bit of an afterthought to me somehow.....the assistant made mathematical errors on the first statement which i had to point out....now wondering if she's forgot to put certain charges on there also and the solicitor is trying to retrieve those.
Are the solicitor fees not supposed to be all added to the completion statement - although to be fair before the house sale the solicitor did advice on bereavement issues - maybe 2 meetings and some emails/telephone calls. Would that not go on the completion statement? Or was it left off because it was advice given before any house sale was going ahead?0 -
Can't remember but as you don't have to sell or buy a house to use a solicitor I expect they can invoice separately if required.0
