when we changed our mortgage from Northern Rock to Halifax in 2004 we wanted to change it to joint names as it was originally in partners name only the halifax charged £250 for this - is that usual?

I've sold my house and have moved in with my partner. The mortgage is currently in his name only but we are thinking of paying off his mortgage, but will then need to put the house in joint names.
