Is cash from surrendered endowments taxable?
Hi, I am about to surrender my endowment but wonder if the surrender value is a) Taxable as a total? b) The bit over and above what I paid in (ie Profit!) is taxable c) Only taxable if I don't use it to pay off my mortgage Any simple advice appreciated.

Insured against a mis sale.
I've heard a few people on the board say that by using a broker you are insured against a mis sale, under what curcumstances can you claim for a mis sale? I don't have an endowement mortgage but was just wondering, plus who pays any compensation (broker or someone else). Sorry if this has been asked before.

Complaint has been ignored. Now what?
Hi all, Has anybody else’s initial complaint letter been ignored? I was sold a Legal & General endowment mortgage in March 1996, the target amount was £29900. I received a letter from L&G in the last year telling me there is a significant risk of a shortfall so I decided to use the ‘Which?’ websites letter generator to…

pathetic endowment compensation
I went through the entire process to complain to Barclays about my 2 Friends Provident endowments. This as many of you will know required considerable hoop jumping and searching through old paperwork. 1 was for £28500 taken out in 1987 and the other £3000 taken out about 3 years later. Both have significant shortfalls. 2…

Paying off a Mortgage
I have now reached the age of retirement, & I am about to pay off what remains of my mortgage, £11,600. Question is, Should I pay off £11,400 and leave £200 outstanding so as to avoid storage fees for the 'Deeds'. Storage fees could be up to £75/year, whereas the interest on £200 would only be about £15. What are the…

 My mother held a mortgage endowment with Standard Life bought through an IFA in 1993. Remortgage & Stamp Duty
Am remortgaging and at same time putting property into joint names with my wife rather than sole name with me. Apparently the sole to joint bit is potentially liable to stamp duty if (I think) half of the mortgage value is greater than the stamp duty threshold of £125k. The mortgage is for £165k, so I think I am OK, but…
