I am with the Halifax, what company is the best to remortgage with at this present time, I don't know to much about this sort of thing, but would Alliance and Liecster be a good choice, I have a meeting with them on Thursday

What research have you done to lead you to the conclusion of Alliance & Leicester?

Depending on your situation etc they may or may not be the best choice for you.

I must admit, I do find all money related matters hard to grasp, I am one of the worlds thicko's in finding whats good or bad in money related situations, the reason I mentioned A&L is they were the first company I phoned, and the opening line was, "you have made the best choice calling us, as we are the cheapest" thats why I thought I should ask you guys, I have a meeting with them on Thursday, should I cancel?

That depends entirely on you really.

    You basically have 2 choices.

    1) Take Alliance & Leicesters word that they are the 'cheapest' and have the most suitable product for you.

    2) Seek a local Mortgage Broker and have them look at the entire mortgage marketplace for you from an unbiased standpoint to see which is the best, most suitable product for you.

Up to you as I said.

they can't guarantee they are the cheapest

you need to bear in mind the fees to leave halifax and not just the headline rate offered at A&L ect - and also bear in mind that halifax are now offering existing customers same products as remortgage customers - always worth finding out what an existing lender can offer to make comparisons

As the old saying goes - well, they would say that, wouldn't they?

I wouldn't cancel the appointment but DON'T sign up for anything there and then. Go to the mortgage section of the site and read Martin's articles. Find a local mortgage broker ["fees free" and "whole of market" are the watchwords] and see what they suggest. You should also speak to the Halifax and see what they will offer - perhaps do that by phone first.

When you've done that you'll have a range of options to choose from.

To be honest I don't think A & L are very competitive at all at the moment, but each to their own. If I was you I would check out lenders such as leeds buildilg society, skipton building society, cheltenham and gloucester, britannia bs and direct line
