Contract - getting new fone & 12 month extra contract

Losing all our credit!
My son is on a payg contract, and as soon as we put credit on, it is immediately taken off! checked with provider, and it's apparently due to companies who charge him to send him texts!! I went into CPW yesterday and saw various offers for cheap camera phones on PAYG terms. Elsewhere on this MSE site I see sites that can unlock various manufacturers phones. My question is.... Can I buy a cheap PAYG phone, unlock it and then put my Onetel sim card into it?
