My son is on a payg contract, and as soon as we put credit on, it is immediately taken off! checked with provider, and it's apparently due to companies who charge him to send him texts!! They think he's sent for a ringtone at one time. How do I stop this? It's like chucking money down the drain. ps my first ever post, so please forgive me if I'm an amateur!

you should be able to stop this by replying to the text message with the word 'STOP'.

Thanks, I'll try that, although orange did tell us that the company will have sold our number to other companies. Can we 'blanket block' these calls, or do we have send a 'stop' text every time we receive a text? Seems very unscrupulous of these companies. (Using this forum is brill - especially if you're not in the know about the subject yourself, so thanks to all you helpful moneysavers!)0

As previously mentioned these compnaies do pass your number on to other companies to text you and charge you for the texts received.
The best thing to do is get another sim card with a different number and don't download ringtones!0 -
Yeah, good suggestion. Anyone recommend where to buy a simcard and the best network for an 11 year old who sends lots of texts, and only uses calls occasionally? Ta!0

your best bet is to check out the freebies forum, O2 regularry do a offer were they give 4 free pay as you go simcards out per person! check the freebies forum for the next time the offer is on. failing that check out ww.ebay.co.uk sellers sell pay as you go sim cards there all the time0 -
Some O2 sims also give you 300 free texts per month if you credit your card with £10 each month. Orange were doing a deal at the moment which was a 2 for 1 text message offer, but that was only for 6 months.0

My son also had the same problem and lost a lot of money before telling me about it. I'm hoping to get one of the free orange or O2 sims that I applied for last week so he can change his sim card. He was using Virgin before, who I've heard are a target of these scams, but not sure if it happens on other networks too"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

The O2 Online PAYG sim gives 300 free texts per month for a monthly top-up fee of £10. I.e. you put £10 on it every month at the same time, O2 credit you 300 free texts and you still have £10 to use for calls or extra services such as picture messaging, WAP or even more texting. Click here and scroll down to the PAYG option. The SIM costs £10 to buy although they are available on Ebay for about half that.He huihuinga taangata he pukenga whakaaro – A meeting of people; a wellspring of ideas (Maori proverb)0
